Questions & Answers

what is the shelf life of scotch blue tape

Asked by: murdock
When the tape gets old it is hard to peel from the roll. Warming it in a microwave oven for 20 seconds softens the adhesive so it can be used.

how soon after painting does the tape have to be removed?

I finished painting my living room ceiling, waited about 20 minutes and attempted to remove the tape. most of it came off, but have to back with razor blade to get the rest off of the hardwood trim . Also, can i leave it on after priming , wait for primer paint to dry, finish paint the room and then remove the tape?
Asked by: bullhead
You should remove the tape prior to paint completely drying to avoid pulling paint from area. remove tape while paint is tacky for best results. Pull tape towards the painted area and not away.

How well will this tape work on watercolor paper? I have tried many different brands of blue tape and they all either stick to the paper but not the surface I try to stick it to, or not keep my paper down as it warps when I paint.
Asked by: saltfish
I don't think it will work. This tape is not sticky. I had to use more on the same area over and over again .

How do I remove the residue adhesive after only 24 hours on an uncoated stone tile?

The tile in the picture has been washed with detergent and scrubbed with mineral spirits. If the tiles were still outside, I could wet diamond polish. They are inside now where the water spray would do damage. The tape was 1 inch Scotch-Blue used to assist aligning the tiles.
Asked by: stone cutter
I was able to remove residue adhesive using a fine grade steel wool. Try it on an inspicuous area first to make sure it does not mar the stone surface.

3M ScotchBlue 1.88 in. x 60 yds. Original Multi-Surface Painter's Tape is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 2487.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible tape! Hello, I never ever leave revues or comments about products but what I just went through I wouldn’t put anyone else through. I just spent all day taping the ceiling of two rooms. When I removed your Scotch Blue Original Multi-Surface painters tape from the ceiling that was painted 48 hours ago, it pulled almost all of the paint off with it. I can’t believe I actually gave the blue tape a try. This project is pretty much a do over and a waste of a vacation. This product is garbage and I will never use any of your products again. This will also be copied and pasted on every site/comment/revue page I can find so other people do not purchase this horrible product and go through this. I have painted many rooms in my homes and of course tried this tape because it was on sale. Thanks for a loss of 3 day. Your product is horrible!

At first, I was reluctant but I stuck with it-- and it to me.Soon, I became an adherent. I began to see colors in a whole new way--at least those in the downstairs bedroom. It really appealed to me.Unfortunately it also a-pealed off some of the ceiling paint but, hey, the overhead is always a cost.Word of caution: Regrettably, the re-cyling man looks like an understudy for the Blue Man Group, as he is still trying to disentangle himself from the gigantic ball of discarded tape I left in the bin.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not solvent freindly I bought the for a boat project using epoxy. I taped out one color removed the tape. Let the color dry, taped out the dried color used acetone to clean the surface before starting the next color. Starting the next coat, got down to edge of the other color taped out. for some reason the coating started rolling up. i guess the acetone moved a coating from the tape to the areas next to the tape. So i guess this was not the right choice for tape.

When grouting a tile backsplash, it gave me a nice clean joint afterwards when I removed it. It also adhered to the plastic drop cloth covering my countertop preventing damage to the quartz finish. It doesn't leave any residue. Scotchblue is a handy product to have around the house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Painter's Tape Out There I have used exclusively Scotch Blue Painter's Tape because it does the job with no fuss. It leaves the other "green with envy" with the crisp lines and no bleeding. I highly recommend that if you are painting and need crisp edges and value for your dollar, buy Scotch Painter's tapes! We do quite a bi of DIY painting around the house and found the Scotch blue tape to fit our needs well. The large 60 yard roll gives us plenty to work with without having to open a new roll for every room we paint. It works well on drywall and have been using it on some of our work working projects on bare and painted wood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tape functions well for many uses beyond painting I use this and similar tapes for whatever purposes arise, not just for painting. It is a good general-purpose tape for temporarily holding things in place or for temporary repairs. I reviewed it several years ago and my opinion has not changed.
