I installed 3 of these in my remodeled basement and wanted to share a few things to help with the description of this great product. The lighting is great and easy to wire when using the standard “black and white” AC wiring. Although not crucial for 1 fixture, a ground is necessary if planning a dimmer set up or installing more than a single fixture. Just install directly to the homes AC wiring. Since this unit is LED-not fluorescent, it is equipped with a driver to control the current of the light. The 277 volt thing is misleading as this only refers to the internal electronics of the fixture. If you’re looking to go for the dimmer set up, you’ll need the external item sold by our Home Depot; aka 3NLED Model # SND0-036-42 0-10 Volt Dimmable External Driver for 36-Watt LED Panel Light. I’ve seen and answered some questions regarding the instructions not found in the box. Mine didn't come with an installation sheet, so I took my receipt over to the store's pro desk. They found it and printed up a copy for me… don't call, just show up. There are different ways to install. For example, installing one fixture will not be the same as installing 2, 3, 4, or more fixtures- so you need to know what you're doing. If not, call an electrician. The main thing is to install that drop ceiling at least 8 inches from the floor joists and have a helper because this project is the most important thing that will show how well the job turned out for a professional look on the room.
Yes, it will work in any place resident or commercial.
They’re sold separately on homedepot.com. as a "3NLED Model # SND0-036-42 0-10 Volt Dimmable External Driver for 36-Watt LED Panel Light". The only way to get this thing to work is to install directly to the homes AC. Since this unit is LED-not fluorescent, it is equipped with a driver to control the current of the light. There are different ways to install. For example, installing one fixture will not be the same as installing 2, 3 4 or more fixtures- so you need to know what you're doing or call an electrician. Here's a video to explain the basics regarding a standard LED/driver-dimmer unit. Although it's not the same model and a 2 x 4...it's the same process to follow. https://youtu.be/__3DRBHNPHQ
Thank you for your inquiry with The Home Depot, Blad. A driver is a power source for this fixture. They are sold separately on homedepot.com. Just search for "3NLED Model # SND0-036-42 Internet # 205495483 0-10 Volt Dimmable External Driver for 36-Watt LED Panel Light". Please see the installation manual attached.
Hi. That’s a tough question to answer because so many specifics are involved. You’ll need to contact the Pro Desk at your store to see what contractors are available. Keep in mind they won’t be able to answer the question as well. Only a home visit from the electrician will get you the answer. Here is what the electrician will need to know before he/she performs the work: How high are the ceilings? Wiring type in home and or outdated? Are there safety hazards involving structural, plumbing, heating or electrical? Is your ceiling 2 x 2 or 4 x 2 paneled requiring frame supports? Are you looking for 1 or more lights installed? What floor is the work to be performed; basement or second floor? Will the service panel (not the whole box-just that circuit to the room) need to be rewired because of shoddy work for that room? Are you supplying the fixture or is the electrician picking it up and delivering it to your home? Eazy, here’s a guide to help you be prepared for the average job. I’m a licensed home inspector in the State of Indiana. “Electricians typically charge $40 to $100 per hour with a $75 service call-out fee. Small electrical projects range from $141 to $419 with most homeowners spending $280 on average. Project and hourly rates depend on the electrician's experience level and the type of work.” Sorry for so much information. I hope it helps. Good choice and good luck!
Yeah, mine didn't come with an installation sheet, so I took my receipt over to the store's pro desk. They found it and printed up a copy for me. It's been a couple of years, but I think they will still do that. One more thing; don't call, just show up.
Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot, Jet. Please see installation manual attached.
Yes. The dimmer switch is sold separately. :-)
OK after some investigation, I'll answer my own question... While the description of these light panels seemed to indicate a simple installation, there is need for a separate Constant Current driver. The specs on the site now state twice that these are sold separately. One for each light panel is required. There was no installation instruction sheet included or any info on the website to help at the time. It appears the website may have been updated since then. Hopefully I will have a happy experience once installed. The drivers are dimmable, which is great.
Yes, but keep in mind this product is designed to be fitted in a drop ceiling-- so you'll have to modify the opening with an opening 1/2 inch larger on all sides for replacement and maintenance. For this job be sure to have at least 6 inches of clearance between the floor joists and the ceiling you're installing. :-)
