Why can't it be used in a saltwater tank? If it's real sand it shouldn't be a problem. If it's dead it will be alive aft

Asked by: Bill
Thanks for your question. For a saltwater fish tank, we recommend using a fine sand - such as a pool filter sand. This will provide a small uniform grain size, with no impurities, that is ideal for a fish tank.

What is the size of the sand (30,40..70), and can it be mixed with cement

Asked by: Pit
Thanks for your question. This particular play sand is not screened for certain gradations. However, it is not typically used in concrete or mortar mix because the sand is too fine.

Customer Reviews

.4 Cu. Ft. Washed Play Sand is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT for a child's sand box We bought this for our grandchildren's sand box, because it said Washed Play Sand and it looked "pretty". However, when our grandchild mixed some water with it (which they always do) it turned to white sludge/mud. It was a mess and had a very strange texture - not at all like beach sand. We bought the All-Purpose sand to replace it. As an added note, regarding the other reviews, it says on the bag... "Do Not Use For ...Aquariums..."

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not as described I bought this sand for a sand/water table. The sand is not soft and fine. There are small stones in it and not at all like beach sand. When its mixed with water and drys, it takes on a cement like quality.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Play Sand Got a few bags of this for the sandbox, and it was terrible. Large chunks with sharp edges, and anytime they moved it around there was a clouds of powdery dust to inhale. We quickly had to take it out and replace it with real play sand.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not white sand The sand is actually silica sand is not from Kolorscape. It has shades of gray rather than the white playsand I was looking for. Hopefully HD will either change the item dexcription or get the right sand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sand for Saltwater Aquarium OK not sure that this is silica sand as it past the vinegar test, It did not totally dissolve but it did dissolve maybe 80 percent of it, and it is a lot whiter than any sand I have found so far. I would recommend testing it from your store in vinegar first but At mine here in Michigan it is great, only complaint is it is not all sugar fine it is slightly finer and has bigger chunks in it so it has to be strained through a screen for aquarium use. So far so good though.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from NOT WHITE It's not white. I bought it because it's supposed to be white. It's lighter tan than regular play sand but it's tan--not white. Not even off-white. More like off-tan. It also has larger sand in it which isn't ideal "playsand". On top of it, it cost more for the white that's not white. You would think that sand is sand--until it's falsely named.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only for Covered Sandboxes! I bought this for an outdoor sandbox. It did not go well. When it gets wet, it has a cement like quality. It doesn't form well and hard to play with. I had to put it on a tarp in the sun to dry out. My in laws love this sand but it's in a covered plastic sandbox. When it stays dry it's ok, when it gets wet you're done for. I just threw it all out last weekend and got mason sand.
