how do you adjust the pattern?

I purchased several Orbit 4" pop-up sprinkler hard top adjustable pattern heads that adjust up to 15 ft. at Home Depot. How do I adjust the pattern? I don't want to get all wet doing it.
Asked by: MountainLawnGuy
To keep from getting wet, close the nozzle. This can be done by turning the nozzle clockwise until it stops. This should be done with the water turned off. Now with the water turned on, slowly turn the nozzle counter clockwise until you get the desired pattern. If you want a complete circle 360 degrees, turn the nozzle counter clockwise all the way until it reaches the stop, before you turn the water on. Hope this is of some help.

I purchase about 20 4" hard top pop-ups 10 years and couldn't have been happier with them. I recently bought 9 more to replace the ones that have worn out over time. Well 7 out of the nine are defective. Water is spewing from around the wiper seal and now can't create enough pressure to fully pop up. I took the tops off of both the older and new sprinklers and noticed that the newer sprinklers have a lot more play between the riser and wiper seal. Not sure why they changed it but I will now be returning all 9 that I bought and will be looking for another brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Virtually indestructible After replacing many, many sprinkler heads that had been destroyed by the lawnmower, I discovered these ones with a metal cap. They are virtually indestructible, and work just great. I like the hard top so much that I wish I could buy just this part and go around replacing the caps on all my other sprinkler heads. I've installed about twenty of these, and had no problems whatsoever. I suspect that the people who are complaining about leaking heads have tried to install too many sprinkler heads on one circuit. When this happens, there's not enough water pressure to lift up the pop-up shafts, and you end up with a puddle around the sprinkler head.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaks, Darn near Worthless I bought this to replace a 10+ year old Rain Bird head that my in-laws accidentally backed over and cracked. I thought with the metal head it would be more durable. The truth is, I don't have any idea how durable it is since it only lasted about 5 minutes in the ground before I pulled it out. It leaks, plain and simple, around both the seal and the base of the spray head. So, if you're trying to water the 3" diameter around the base of your head, this will work perfectly. If you're trying to water the 8-15' "range" of this head, don't bother. I'll be returning this and purchasing another, cheaper, Rain Bird that doesn't leak. Period.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DON'T BUY!!! Absolute junk! Broke within 3 minutes and leaks profusely! Seeing metal hardtop and high price I figured this would be a good quality product. I couldn't have been more wrong!! It broke withing 3 minutes of installing it. I figured maybe that was just a dud so I took the backup I bought and installed it and that one leaked profusely. Don't waste your time with this garbage like I did. I will never buy an Orbit product again!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leak like crazy causing pressure loss like everyone else says, these leak like crazy around the pop-up head. If you have enough of these leakers on one zone, it will just kill your line pressure. Ironically I was setting these at 180 degrees to replace 360 degree heads

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Many Problems I've had my sprinkler system for about 6 years and have had multiple problems with the heads over the years. I finally decided to rebuild the entire system this year and used these Orbit 4" heads. I bought 6 and 4 of them were defective. All had the same problem with leaks around the seals, which limited the amount of pressure coming from the nozzle. I replaced them with Rain Bird heads and all my issues were fixed immediately.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Orbit pop up spray heads I bought a dozen pop ups, they have a great adjustable nozzle, the big problem is that the seal leaks so bad around the stem that if installed in zones they will not pop up. I know, but I have 13+ GPM to each Zone but if I try to run more that 3 heads they will not pop up without help, They just leak badly around the stems and flood the area. No pipe leaks as I tested that by closing all of the adj. nozzles and then they pop up and stay even when I turn the water back off.
