Can this be used as balcony railing

I used mine for a ramp railing cover. However, if you cannot anchor the post (this is only a hollow cover) securely to something (mine slid over a 4X4 post anchored in the ground), it will be wobbly, and definitely not secure enough for a balcony.

Yes, just use a paint designated for plastic.

You're going to want to leave your 4 x 4 long enough that it reaches close to the top of this 4 x 4 sleeve. The sleeve is very thin, and if you're attaching railings you're going to want to screw into the 4 x 4, not just the sleeve. Hope this helps.

As this is a decorative and not structural product, you should be able to do what you suggest.

I will not be using this for a deck, instead I will use it for a porch handrail, therefore do I need to put wood under?

Yes you'll need to have a 4x4 installed inside each one. They are only a sleeve "jacket". Alone they have no structural support.

Bought these sleeves to cover cracked and splintering deck posts. I disconnected the railings, slid the sleeves over the posts, and the reconnected the railings. Finished off the project with 4x4 caps. No more worries of someone getting injured.

Porch Rail
To build this rail system you require many separate pieces, but it all comes together fairly easy. The 45 degree angles at each post made this project a little more challenging.

Post covers work very well with Veranda post install kit
These are simply 4x4 covers that slide over the Veranda post install kit. They match perfectly with all the Veranda railing pieces. I installed Veranda Pro Rail around my entire patio and down my patio stairs. Normally the Pro Rail is used with the 5x5 post covers but I preferred the look of the smaller post and since all of my corners were 90 degree I could use the 4x4 post/cover. Everything worked as designed and the finished product looks wonderful. Remember this is a plastic/PVC product and all the screws go into plastic so you need to be careful not to over tighten (I also pre-drilled and ended up going through a couple of the square drive bits). Once everything is assembled the railing is very sturdy, some of my railings were just under the maximum length and even those feel sturdy. Since none of this product is stocked locally I was concerned that if I messed something up I would have to reorder and wait for it to arrive, by following the directions and being very careful everything worked fine. I did call Veranda with a couple of questions, once before I placed my order and once during installation, their support people were easy to reach and very knowledgeable about the product. Using this railing system was much less expensive than wrought iron, I believe it looks much better and it will never need painting, of course the big reason it was less expensive is my wife and I had to install it ourselves.

Exactly as expected
A bit thinner walls than the 72" variety, but cut to a standard length of 39" for rail post application. Ordered from the comfort of my living room with my fuzzy slippers on and delivered straight to my door. Could not have been more convenient.
