The early bulbs had a garish green hue and were not technically dimmable. Then they were dimmable, but still maintained their gross color. They've come a long way in the last few years with the ability to mimic incandescent color temperatures with daylight and soft white, but I'm still not completely sold.
I like these bulbs insofar as have the soft warm glow of incandescent bulbs, and they're even mildly dimmable. They still just didn't pass the test. You can see from the pictures that I replaced one bulb in my four bulb ceiling fan to try it out. On full, you can't tell the difference. That's good! That serves the purposes of perhaps 90% of the people who would buy them. But reduced to 50%, it's brighter than the other three, and then down to a quarter, it didn't change at all. In fact, and I couldn't get a good picture of it, when turned all the way down, it reverted to the green color. Blech.
So, I give them four stars because I doubt anyone is as picky about their lighting as I am (I have hoarded a few hundred incandescent bulbs of various wattage as they have been "outlawed"). But it should be noted that dimmable is relative.
