Product Overview

The Aerobin is a technological breakthrough. It uses a patented lung within an insulated bin to promote aerobic and efficient break down of organic matter. This aerobic process helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Aerobin is also easy to use - just open the lid, drop in organic waste and close. When the fertile compost is produced it is easily accessed at either side. Aerobin also captures liquid nutrients that can be used as liquid fertilizer. The Aerobin creates the perfect environment for hot composting. Hot composting is desirable because it kills pathogens, inoculates weeds and seeds and creates good quality compost in a short time. A variety of materials such as food scraps (including onion and citrus), tea leaves, lawn clippings, leaves, twigs and even newspaper will encourage microbial action to produce compost. The thermal insulation in the Aerobin stabilizes temperature, beneficial to microbial action year round.
  • Aeration lung means no manual turning
  • Insulated walls and lid support year round composting
  • 2 Access doors for access to compost
  • Leachate reservoir collects liquid nutrients
  • Its quick easy and rewarding to use

I had to have been a masochist to purchase this composter
The guy that designed how to assemble this composter was a sadist. After you read this review if you are a masochist and want a well constructed composter this is the one for you. I stored the composter 24 hours in my garage causing the cpvc parts to expand. Parts of the assembly are well made and fit well, but when the instructions state it takes two clever people to assemble - believe them. The 2 "Removable side access panels" are very difficult to engage in Step 5. My Daughter [clever young Woman], said there should be a Step 6 - pop the top and drink a chilled beer in celebration of completing Step 5. Eventually, the 4th time we watched the on-line video, we understood what the guy demonstrating installation was doing a his body shielded all but his frustration with Step 5 in the demonstration video. Ultimately, I think the aerobic digestor will work. I was [aka retired] a Civil Structural Engineer that built and started up commercial and govt. digestors and this one has the right elements to be successful. Yes, I would buy the system again to achieve the desired results knowing Step 5 loomed over all.

Insulated yes, but not enough to really get hot in the middle of New England winter. But did not freeze. Also run wetter a more open composter, so kitchen peelings sometimes overwhelm.

Dear Customer, where did you buy this unit? We do not ever say the unit will keep running warm in the winter - it will not - but it usually will not freeze up which means it will keep working months longer than an not insulated unit. And, when it works it work several times better than any other unit. Therefor on an annual basis an Aerobin compost bin processes several times more organic waste (breaks it down) than any other unit similar in size. Too wet is a very common problem - standard rule is: material needs to be 2/3 brown. Shredded paper is a great substitute for brown leaves, grass and other garden clippings. Looks good in theory, but honestly, does NOT work well.
I can not find a way to keep this thing from falling apart. I just got it, put it together and after filling the bin 1/3, or "maybe" 1/2 full with mostly green grass clippings, a small amount of brown leaves, and minimal garden scraps, both the front and back bottom sliding doors have easily popped-off. The corner side pieces have now split open too. Generally, all the stuff that was "in" has now fallen out on to our patio. And generally, it is a pretty big stinky mess. Presently, I have a strap cinched around it in an effort to keep things from going everywhere. I'm very disappointed after spending $200+ on a compost bin I thought was designed to perform accordingly. At the moment, I'm thinking a $15 plastic trash can might work better. I'd seriously consider a different option.

This composter is great! It's extremely easy to put assemble and, more importantly, it makes composting SO EASY! I haven't had to mix/turn the compost; with their patented internal lung, all you have to do is toss your fruit/veggie scraps in and close the lid.

Dear Customer, your concern is valid, but I promise you that this is the more popular of the 2 sizes and that 99% of customers have no problems - yes it is a little tricky to assemble - but they have a video on Youtube showing how to make it easier. And, it is deigned to become very stable once you start using it. When the unit is half full it will be perfectly fine. Yes, it is not designed to be "man-handled"/moved once assembled - that is tricky. Best to assemble in the place of use - than there are no problems. You returned the best compost bin - that is unfortunate. There is a video on Youtube which show how best to assemble it. When properly assembled the unit is sturdy and it becomes very stable once you start filling it up with debris. Feel free to call us to get more info if you like: Exaco 877-760-8500 ext 701. Easy to assembly and works as advertised. We've had it for about a month now and it works like a champ. We're already getting a bit of compost at the bottom. Recommend that you "spike" the initial mix with some non-sterilized, compost to get the system going.
