Questions & Answers

does the battery need to be charged after filling?

The battery bubbles when filled is this normal? And it would not run the backup pump or clear the warning lights immediately after filling, does it need to be charged after filling?
Asked by: Patricio
No. It is minimally charged upon adding acid.

Why do we need 6 quarts of battery acid for ? much does the battery hold? does it need to be refilled every day, week, month, upon use? or will it be

enough to fill a new battery that we will need every day, week, month, year, or per use???????? then if you use the box is that safe to store after you open a corner to pour the acid out??????????? Your information is making it very hard to not skip this and call a plumber who will put in a great all in one pump for $600..............
Asked by: slycook
Read the directions. Its not 6 quarts. The battery manufacture recommends checking level weekly. Refill with DISTILLED WATER ONLY after 1 filling with acid.

Will this fix a bad battery alarm? If I dump out what is in the battery and fill it with new acid?

Asked by: Tom
I doubt it.

What is the actual concentration of H2SO4?

The MSDS declares a sulfuric acid concentration between 1% and 51%. That is an extremely broad range and an insufficient answer. So what is it really?

When you open the box, a rubber hose pops out, you simply cut the hose with scissors, place the hose in the battery holes (one hole at a time), and fill the battery. I pinched the hose with my fingers so that once the battery acid became visible in each hole, I could control the flow and didn't spill any acid. I like the fact that both the acid and the battery, if left sealed and unopened, can remain on my shelf indefinitely, so I purchased an extra battery and container of acid just in case I have a prolonged power outage and I find the need to swap batteries. Just keep in mind that if you remove the airtight seal on the battery, or if you open the acid container by snipping the hose, the clock starts ticking on the life span of these items.

The box was caved in on one side, although there was no evidence of the acid having leaked. The problem is that you need the box to pour the acid into the battery. This is a messy job to begin with, the box made it even worse. HD should not have sold it

The main problem was there wasn't enough of it. The brand new watch dog battery that it was suppose to fill, was not filled to proper levels, before It ran out. I called customer service at home depot and they were kind enough to issue a 30 dollar gift card so I could get another container of acid to finish filling the battery. Of course that cost me a second trip to home depot, but it was a unavoidable.I checked for damage to the container there were non, believe me if acid was leaking I would have smelled or seen it..

Directions with the battery were clear on how to use the empty battery box to hold the acid box while I was filling the battery so things worked out really well. Disposing of the excess acid was easy enough using my city's hazardous waste disposal service. (Kudos to Alexandria, VA for this service.)
