Protected CFL
Philips 14 Watt Silicone Covered CFL Bulb
I have a number of different bulbs in use around my house. Some are traditional incandescent bulbs, some are CFL and a couple are LED's. The big advantage of this CFL over others is the protective Silicone cover which should capture any broken glass or mercury if the bulb is broken. I have always been a bit nervous about the mercury in CFL bulbs and this would alleviate that concern. These bulbs are slower than a normal CFL coming to full brightness but once they have warmed up the light output is very comparable to a normal 60 watt incandescent bulb. Their size and shape is also comparable to a normal 60 watt bulb. If you are looking for a rugged CFL bulb this would probably be your best choice but with the price of LED's falling there might be a better choice.

Prettier alternative to CFL light bulbs
As we all move to more energy-efficient light bulbs, and the variety of bulbs seems to grow each week, it is nice to use one that lasts a very long time, emits a bright, white light, and looks attractive in a fixture. I might use the coiled bulbs in lamps where the bulbs doesn't show, but this bulb looks like the old, solid bulbs and looks better when lit. It is very heavy - not sure why, but no matter! It looks and works great.

Safety addressed at the expense of light distribution and brightness
This bulb is not bright enough for applications that I have in mind and takes a while to heat up to emit full intensity light. I put the bulbs in service and later opted to replace them with 2700k LED bulbs at about the same price for instant full-intensity light.. This 60w equivalent bulb emits what I believe is closer to a 40w equivalent incandescent bulb. I will not recommend this bulb to others.

soft / protected for safety but at the expense of clearly distributed light
I found the silicone energy saver compact household fluorescent light bulbs to be a decent product if you require a protected light bulb but the protection comes at the expense of a dull light. The 60w equivalent bulb emits what I believe is closer to a 40w equivalent bulb.

Very compact . . . and silent!
Compared to some other CFLs I purchased recently, these Phillips bulbs are more compact, and they are silent, i.e. no annoying buzzing noise.
Beware that first impressions can be deceiving. When unplugged, that familiar ugly spiral tubing is visible inside the bulb-shaped cover; however, when the bulb is energized, the spiral disappears.
Also, it takes about a minute for these bulbs to come up to full brightness --- like most CFLs --- and about 25 minutes of total use for them to assume the familiar soft white (yellowish) glow of an incandescent bulb. Initially, the emitted light is more of a bluish, daylight color, but that's only temporary.
Overall, I rate these bulbs as excellent.

Perfect replacement bulbs!
I want to save on energy and on my electricity bill so I got these bulbs. According to the information they might just outlive me, which is fine with me, but in the meantime I enjoy the truly perfect lighting these bulbs give. The output is a cool light, and for the task lighting I use the lamp for this is perfect. I am very pleased with these bulbs.

Better Than Traditional Compact Fluorescent Not As Good As LED
This is a top of the line compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) but unlike other CFLs it is almost as expensive as an LED bulb.
The light is good after it warms up for a bit. The silicone cover is more attractive than bare CFLs.
I would buy an LED instead. Actually I thought this was an LED bulb until I read the packaging (my fault).
While it is shatter resistant, why not just get a bulb that doesn't have mercury for about the same price?

Bulbs that don't shatter
My house has low ceilings and for some reason the light in guest bedroom is always getting hit (people stretching). The protective coating prevents the glass and white powder from going all over.

Like the silicone covering
I will never be a fan of the light given off by the new "equivalent wattage" bulbs. But the silicone covering/Tuffguard is a really great idea because of the dangers associated with these new fangled bulbs that we have to buy now versus the old incandescent bulbs. It also hides the actual shape of the bulb inside of it which can me nice depending on your particular light fixture. Not sure how long the bulbs will last yet though.
