Questions & Answers

how do I determine the thickness of the roller cover I need?

Asked by: Jimmy
The rougher the surface, the thicker the nap The smoother surface, the thinner the nap Most drywall applications use a 3/8in nap but you can go from 1/4in to 1/2in. Some may even use a 3/4in but only with flat paints. Going to this high of a nap will leave more stipple (roller marks) on your walls.

9 in. x 3/8 in. High-Density Polyester Roller Cover is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 252.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lots of roller lint Would not recommend this unless you don't care what the end result is. I thought we had bubbling in the paint and we did an extra coat. It was the rollers, brand new ones being used on the wall, shedding everywhere. I don't see why Home Depot would carry a product like this with the most common issue being poor quality. Spend the extra few bucks and get a better set.

They do suck up a lot of paint so I recommend freezing or bagging the roller in between coats. I have noticed no fabric from the roller on the paint finish.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from started falling apart on a small job I have used dozens of these rollers over the last few years. They have always worked fine until my last painting project. The roller started shedding it's fibers while painting a cream colored paint. This made them pretty much camouflaged until the paint dried. It was only a hallway that I was painting, but there is thousands of fibers sticking out of the paint now. What do I do now? Spend how many days trying to sand them out of the paint? Who the heck has time for that? This issue has made me extremely unhappy with this product that had always worked well in the past.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good if prepped I've used these rollers for years. They are a good nap, and work well. The key is to "prep" them, so you won't get fuzz on the surface. First, put the roller on the handle. then make an "okay" sign and run the circle created by your thumb and forefinger along the roller a few times. This will get a lot of loose fuzz off. Next, go to the bathroom and run the roller under the tub faucet, like you're cleaning the roller.. Lastly, spin the roller along the back wall of the tub a few times to get most of the water out. Now the roller is primed and you're ready to paint. Don't worry that the roller is a little wet, as long as it's not dripping, you're fine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lint! Sheds like crazy Noticed little pieces of lint all over the walls I had just painted. All over! Realized the brush sheds like crazy. I took the unused one and pulled gently on it and the fibers just came off. Really frustrated. Purchased a non HD brand that was a little more, but worth the price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Stained our concrete patio. We used 4 rollers. They started as 3/8". When not even 1/2 way done it felt like I was rolling on the roller core.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Coverage. Waste of money The entire time I was using these rollers I kept saying that I hated them. We went through so much paint because these rollers absorb so much without putting hardly any paint on the walls. I can't even finish my project with these. Waste of money on rollers and on paint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product for the Price I have used these rollers in the past and go out of my way to find them when doing home projects. The latest project involved painting the inside of the main garage. They work very well holding paint when it came to painting the ceiling. Because the garage is oversized the three pack offered greater value for the project size.
