Product Overview

The A-iPower SUA5000 provides 5,000-Watt of starting power and 4,250-Watt of running power. Its 223cc/7.5hp OHV engine provides the necessary power without sacrificing fuel efficiency or reliability. Its overhead valves help deliver consistent power time after time. Cast iron sleeves provide durability and extend run life. The dual element air filter protects the engine while allowing extended service intervals. The low oil alert shuts down the engine automatically to protect it from potential damage. Its oversize recoil cover allows for maximum air flow for improved ventilation and cooling. With a 4 Gal. heavy duty, all-steel fuel tank, it provides an average run time of 9 hours at 50% load. The generator operates at 68 dBA. Combine with an efficient, high-output alternator designed and manufactured by Senci to deliver greater peak wattage when starting motor-driven tools and appliances. Its compact design and light weight allows for versatility and mobility.

Why does this come up in a search for NATURAL GAS generators? HOME DEPOT, I'm talking to you!

Asked by Grouchbag December 26, 2020

Hi! Thanks for the info. I will follow up with Home Depot on this. Thanks!

Does this Generator produce smooth (sine wave) current, such as one would expect from an inverter...

Asked by Adrian September 14, 2020

Hi Adrian, The SUA5000 generator will not output a pure sine wave output. This unit is an AVR technology unit in which will output a modified sine wave output. Hope this helps! Thanks,

how do I ground it

Asked by art September 14, 2018

Grounding and bonding your generator can be answered best by Googling. There are many different scenarios which can be applied to your particular use of the generator.

Are the outlets gfci compliant?

Asked by Wayne September 13, 2018

I don’t know about GFCI compliant, but they are on a breaker that will trip if overloaded. Our primary use is for our 5th wheel trailer and has worked extraordinarily well. I would buy again in a heartbeat is I could justify a 2nd gen.

Is this unit capable for transfer switch to house

Asked by Jim April 20, 2018

Yes, this model can be used with a transfer switch.

Can I run a 200 amp welder @ 220V

Asked by Steve March 4, 2018

Assuming your welder max amp draw is 50 amps. Amps ×volts = Watts . So you would need a much larger gen.

Does this Gen have a L14-30R receptical? for 240 volts???

I purchased the SUA5000 back in the spring of 2017 to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season. I picked it up from the HD closest to my house, took it home, and had it up an running in less than 30 minutes. Since this was my first generator purchase, I was not sure what to expect, but this little unit met my expectations for a little while. It ran smooth and was easy to start and move around, but it did have slightly annoying rattle. Over the course of the year, I used the unit 3 times with a cumulative runtime of 5.3 hours, all without incident. Then in the spring of 2018, I took the unit outside to check it over and to ensure that it was still in tip top shape. It started on the first pull and ran wonderfully. Just as I started walking away, I noticed a dark shadow inside of the alternator housing. After shutting down the unit and taking a closer look, I noticed that a black bolt has worked itself loose with the head resting directly against the fan. This was the source of that annoying rattle and the bolt lacked a locking washer. I immediately contact HD credit card and they directed me to reach out the manufacturer to get the unit repaired under warranty. This is wear the NIGHTMARE begins. I called the number in the manual and left a message. I did not receive a call. Then I call again, left a message and followed up with email to warranty support. Again, no return call. On the third attempt, I reached A-iPower customer service (which is apparently a one man shop) and explained the bolt situation. After going back and forth over several calls, I was finally informed that there was no authorized repair shop in metro Atlanta. The support contact, Dennis, provided me with the name if some random place on Memorial Drive and asked me to haul a 170 pound generator over the shop for repairs at my own expense with the promise of vendor reimbursement. The guy at the repair shop took one look at the unit and asked me to take it back to HD. I did, and after spending 1.5 hours there, I was told that the only thing that they could do was to offer me a store credit. I was happy with that until I found out that I could NOT use the store credit to purchase another A-iPower generator via HD Online. Crazy right? I went back and for with HD at two different stores and via the phone trying to get this issue resolved. After escalating to HD Corp, I was finally able to get a HD Gift Card that could be used to purchase another generator on HD Online. It took over 4 hours of my time get a defective product refunded. HD can do better than this! HD also needs to reevaluate their relationship A-iPower. Their warranty process is a total joke. THE GOOD: Starts on the first pull Compact size Weight - not too heavy Reasonably quiet for a gas powered generator Study Construction THE BAD: Poor Quality Control Awful Warranty Support (no authorized repair shops in Georgia) Warranty not worth the paper it is printing on Poor customer service - slow to return calls, if they call you back at all! The returns process for HD ONLINE is a total nightmare

The A-iPower 5,000 watt gasoline powered portable generator is a great asset for the handy man. The unit is power by a 223cc single cylinder 4-stroke engine and starts at 5250 watts while runs at about 4250 watts. Out of the box the unit did require some assembly such as removing motor blocks for stability while shipping. This was a bit difficult due to positioning but not a big problem. The only other thing that had to be put on were the wheels and the two feet. Oh and you will need some help getting it out of the box. The unit is about 125 pounds. The unit is pull start and has a 4 gallon fuel tank. It comes with four 125 volt outlets for 110 use and one 240 volt 4 pin outlet as you can see in the pictures below. Over all the unit isn't too loud but I would suggest keeping it at a distance if you want something quieter. I would not recommend trying to use this unit as a WHOLE HOUSE back up for power. It can only run a few essential items in your home in case of a power outage.

I bought this generator thinking......
Let me first start out by saying: I am not easily impressed with bling and flashy items. For this generator, the 5000 starting Watts 4250 running Watts, I paid about $375 I really wasn't expecting much. I planned on using this as a back-up generator to my primary running generator. As I said, I was not expecting much. When the box was delivered to my house, someone from the factory left the contained oil package have unscrewed, so everything had oil all over it and I really started out on a sour note with this generator. It took me about 20 minutes to get it up and running and I can tell you that this is an excellent generator. I think it runs at about 78decibels, which is fine. But, it starts on the second Pull- every single time. I walked the end of my driveway (75ft) and could hear a quiet hum. This is an excellent generator. If you are sitting on the fence in wondering if you're making the right decision in buying this generator ? I can tell you I was skeptical from the very beginning. Once I got this generator up and running, I realized that it was all for not. Make no mistake about it other than the Leaky oil in the shipping container, I believe a I power makes a very good product I'm very very very happy with this generator....I demand nothing but the best when i spend a lot of $$$ on things that i purchase...The humorous part is that i considered this to be a throw away after a year or so...i know right now i was wrong on this...i own a lot of acreage on the Maine-Candian border..So, i really enjoy taking my 40 foot trailer camper and tow it up from the Boston area and for 2 or 3 weeks, just camp on the lake front...set up my bar-b-que, demolish about 4 cases of beer, fish, swim and enjoy total solitude....this generator never skipped a beat....not to mention it is a good lookin generator. Would i recommend this generator????? Hows this? 3 of my friends on facebook have bought them sight unseen on my word....and they are happily impressed also.. Because those friends know: when the ole KAHUNIAS says something....his word is his bond

First one was damaged.
The first one was damaged and returned to Home Depot. The return process was easy. The replacement generator was in good condition when it arrived. I have only operated it for a few hours but it runs flawlessly. It was easy to start and produced steady power. I ran all of my electric yard tools and tried to put a decent load on the generator. I would recommend this generator but would have it shipped to your local store so you can check the condition. Once you get one that is in working condition, it will do everything it claims.

This unit worked great during an outage in my neighborhood. I only had to run it for about 5-6 hours but it performed very well during that time. We only went through a few gallons of gas, only using it to power a window a/c unit, a deep freeze and a few small devices (lamps & Phone chargers).

Have not used it enough at the time to really rate it. It was purchased to provide power, along with another generator that we already have, to household items during power outage from hurricane. Fortunately no hurricane to date. Did start and run well for test.

I haven’t givin it a good run yet. Bought it to power house in a power outage, I did break in motor with about 6 oil changes with 1 hour run intervals. Very simple to change oil. Then I ran for 6 hours powering house hooked up to transfer switch with 6 breakers ran everything I wanted without a problem, 2 refrigerator, 1 portable a/c, most lights on led bulbs 2 fans, tv, WiFi, microwave, and coffee brewer. I am satisfied. I believe this generator will give me plenty years use.
