Product Overview

  • Aids attic ventilation
  • Lightweight and moisture resistant
  • One step installation
Each carton contains 10 Vents. The ADO Products Durovent 23-1/2 in. x 46 in. Rafter Vent with Built-In Baffle helps keep air moving in your attic. The ventilation system features polystyrene construction, which is lightweight and moisture resistant and the integrated baffle means that you need no blocking material between the vent and the top plate.
  • Install between rafters to provide an unobstructed air channel through insulation to help keep air flowing freely from soffits to ridge vents
  • Ideal for high-volume new construction or inexpensive re-insulation
  • Designed to friction-fit between the rafters or trusses with the vent's cones pushed up against the roof deck
  • Secure the vent in place by stapling the wide nailing flanges to the truss and top plate by using a horizontal stroke with your hammer tacker (hammer tacker not included)
  • Polystyrene material provides a lightweight air channel
  • Water resistant and durable, blocking out moisture and wind from penetrating the attic, to satisfy most building-code requirements
  • Economical way to meet energy code requirements for air flow
  • Integrated baffle eliminates the need for blocking material such as batt insulation between the vent and the wall top plate, as is commonly the practice for installation of rafter vents without an integral baffle

what is the recommended staple and staple size for instillation

Asked by: customer
Id use a T-50 staple, BUT id use a 1/2 or 5/8" long staple as a 1/4" staple, if it drives in all the way, may cut this thin cheap foam. it has no strength.

Can I apply insulation directly against these baffles?

Asked by: Cthom34
Yes but why waste the time and money? The insulation will also keep the airflow confined to under the sheathing.

can this be used with spray foam expanding insulation, vaulted ceiling with 2x6 rafters.

can this be used with spray foam expanding insulation, vaulted ceiling with 2x6 rafters.
Asked by: frank
Pointless. The spray foam would have to be confined to beneath this vent panel, but above another rigid panel installed under the rafter board, else the spray foam will fall down. The foam expands greatly, and thats a risk of pushing this thin foam material up. If foam is going to be installed, omit this rafter vent- its not needed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Misleading advertising: "Rafter Vent with Built-In Baffle helps keep air moving in your attic." T... Misleading advertising: "Rafter Vent with Built-In Baffle helps keep air moving in your attic." This statement contradicts: "Install between rafters to provide an unobstructed air channel through insulation to help keep air flowing freely from soffits to ridge vents" and "Water resistant and durable, blocking out moisture and wind from penetrating the attic" IT does not "keep air flowing in teh attic" in fact, it REDUCES attic airflow. "The attic" is the space from between the insulation on top of the ceiling to the UNDER side of this product (under the top of the rafter) The purpose of this product is to confine the air flow between this, and the under-side of the roof sheathing (plywood or OSB that the roof shingles attach to) Photo on Home Depots ad page is very misleading. The center photo is not an actual installation in an attic, it shows the support wall extending down. It is IMPOSSIBLE to install this product on (in) a real roof unless the roof pitch (how "steep" the roof is) VERY steep. It is impossible to be in the attic and crawl out to near the edge of the roof to access the space in which to install and staple this in place. "Install between rafters to provide an unobstructed air channel " This will NOT provide an un-obstructed channel- the projections that contact (or come close) to the under-side of the sheathing actually BLOCK airflow and cause turbulence. For proper air flow there must be a channel that is free and smooth. These cheap plastic blocking pieces are cheap and poorly functioning alternatives to the one or two inch thick foam board as used to do a proper job for this application. That thick foam board is much more expensive, The baffle will NOT work on houses like mine where the rafter top chord comes down and notches to rest directly on the stud-wall. The photo showing the installation has been 'rigged' to show the product being easy to install, but this is misleading. "One step installation" It is not one step, the Home Depot page says "install with friction fit" then "staple in place" That is TWO steps. Attempting to use a bat hammer will destroy this cheap, thin material if the hammer hits it. Its very thin foam. it is clear that whomever writes these product descriptions for HDs website knows absolutely nothing about the product or application.
