Is this 1K Sq.ft. floor space, and you are not considering Cubic Sq.ft. w/ceiling heights? So you consider a 16'x32' room=512 sq.ft. only?
Asked by: scooby
The square footage measurements are based on an area with tight construction and an 8 foot ceiling height.

1.6 gal. Evaporative Humidifier for 1000 sq. ft. is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Combats Dry Air & Works For Dry Skin The designer series evaporative humidifier works well at replenishing moisture in your home or office. This humidifier is set up in my bedroom and it's so awesome at helping my dry skin and dry eyes. The winter months are particularly harsh on my sensitive skin, but I'm already noticing improvement. There is a built-in humidstat and one button will give you the control (+ and -) to adjust the amount of humidity for your space. I set mine right in the middle. There is another button giving you the option of fan speeds: High, Middle, and Low. The low fan speed is so quiet, you can barely hear it. The middle fan speed is audible, but not disruptive. It's similar to those white noise machines some people use to help them sleep better. The high fan speed is loud, yet powerful. If you want the house humidified in a hurry, then the high fan speed will accommodate your wishes. Mine is set medium humidity and medium fan speed. It is very comfortable for me. The humidifier comes with the first filter. Each filter lasts one season, so the filter will need changing four times per year. Right now in 2015, each filter costs about $8.99. The price of the filter is very minimum maintenance upkeep considering the benefits.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It works This is a very cheaply made humidifier and the jury is still out on just how long it will last. It's supposed to be a "designer series", but it just looks like a plastic box with a motor in it. It was packaged very well and was not difficult to assemble. It's a hard plastic with little give, so be careful when you're putting it together. The instructions are clear and it's simple to use. It works but not worth the price. There's really nothing spiffy or "designer" about this and I am concerned about durability - especially since you have to disassemble it to change the wick (looks like a filter).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aircare Evaporative Humidifier I've been using this humidifier, and it has definitely improved the dryness in my house while using the furnace. Usually, during the winter, I try to simmer a pot of water on the stove to help increase the humidity in my house when it was really dry, which is not very safe, because I've forgotten about it a couple of times, and left it on while I left the house. I've even used old coffee cans filled with water and have set them on top of the registers to help with the dryness during the winter. I've also used steam humidifiers and vaporizors, that you have to add salt to, and there was a lot of scale and mineral buildup in them, and the design of the vaporizer wasn't easy to clean, and presented mold issues which I didn't care for, and there's also the issue of it running dry with a heating element. This humidifier is much safer I feel, and the concept is pretty straight-forward. It has a paper filter similar to an air filter that a car uses that wicks the water, and a fan to help propel humidity into the air. It doesn't shoot a mist or vapor that you can physically see, so it seems like it isn't doing anything really, but I have a meter that measures the humidity in the air, and it does work. It was easy to put together, you just install the filter, and put the plastic water level float in, fill the basin with about a gallon and a half of water, it has an overflow if you put in too much water, and then adjust the humidity level, and the fan level. The only issue I have was with the water level float, I can't get correct readings, because it seems like the gauge pushes the float down and gets stuck, so knowing this, I just check the water level occasionally. The water level can be refreshed by pouring water through the front of the top without disassembling it. The fan has 3 speeds, the high speed is sort of noisy, you could run it for a short time while you're not in the room if it's bothersome and you want to raise the humidity level faster, the medium speed is ignorable and I don't notice it at all with usual household noise in the daytime with the t.v. on and traffic noise; it sounds like a fan, and the low speed is almost undetectable and perfect to use while sleeping, I have mine set up on the nightstand next to my bed. Since there is no heating elements involved, it would be good to use in children's rooms or where small children are, and there's no danger of the water running dry during the night, or forgetting about it. I imagine that if the water would run out, there is no danger involved, because it's basically just a fan motor. I like the design, as compared to white plastic medical-looking vaporizer and humidifier units, it's modern and unobtrusive, and goes well in my house. It doesn't look completely black, more like a dark bronze-black with silver base legs. It says it is a table top model, but you can also set it on the floor, and it isn't easy to tip over because of the design of the legs to keep it stable, and it isn't sitting directly on the floor which I like, because if you spill any water when refilling, you can easily see it to wipe it up. I give it 5 stars because of the safety factor of no heating elements, adding humidity into the air to cut down on colds and dry air in the winter, it's easy to clean, I just wash the basin out with soapy water once a week. Made in the U.S.A. Definitely recommend!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice design, runs quite. I like this humidifier because there is no tank that you have to carry and try to fit in a sink/basin. You take the water to the tank (I use a 2 liter pkastic bottle that works great or you can use a gallon plastic bottle as well). To refill, just pour the water into the top if the tank where it dips down. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it's a little hard to see when more water needs to be added and there is no automatic off switch if it runs out of water. It runs quite (like a fan blowing on low).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It's A No From Me When I saw the 1.6 gal. Evaporative Humidifier for 1000 sq. ft. online I grabbed it immediately. My wife suffers from extreme dry skin in the winter, so I was hoping that adding a humidifier to the house would help alleviate some of her discomfort. Unfortunately I could not have been more wrong. I certainly did not have over inflated expectations, but I did think that the 1.6 gal. Evaporative Humidifier for 1000 sq. ft. would at least help raise the low humidity level in the downstairs of my house. The unit is rated for 1000 sq. ft., and the lower level of my house is well under that at 880 sq. ft. Plus, much of the downstairs is very open, so when I placed it on the hardwood floors in the center of the space, I expected to notice at least a small difference. This didn't happen. Initial set up was easy. I just placed water in the tank, placed the top back on, turned the dial to medium (the fast setting is way too loud), and the fan began to run. At that point I took note of the humidity level in the house according to the built in hygrometer in my thermostat, it read 46%. Several hours later the humidity levels didn't change at all, in fact it went down to 45%! Not to be deterred, I tried again. This time I let the 1.6 gal. Evaporative Humidifier for 1000 sq. ft. run all day and again it made no difference what-so-ever. In fact, the water level in the tank barely changed over the 10-12 hours I let the machine run. Obviously no humidity had been introduced to the space. So, there is no way I can give the 1.6 gal. Evaporative Humidifier for 1000 sq. ft. my thumbs up. It is basically a black box filled with water and a really loud fan.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I use it in my bedroom which is 300 sq... I use it in my bedroom which is 300 sq feet and use a home weather meter which shows the humidity levels under 25% when using this device. Does not do the job. This might work in a room that is 200 sq feet, not 1000.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase I was looking for a humidifier that would do my Great room (kitchen, dining room and living room). I finally found one. This humidifier will cover up to 1000 square feet. This humidifier is not the quietest model so therefore I do have to keep the fan on low. It was very easy to put together and add the water. I like that it also has a water level to show you when the water is getting low.
