Most appliances of this nature carry 1 year warranties.(I've seen good quality ones go to 5 years.) Unless you are an electrician or appliance service person(or other trades/professions dealing with electricity). I recommend you DO NOT take this apart for 2 reasons. Electricity is dangerous and can kill easily!! Secondly, you will usually void your warranty. Most retailers have their own "approved" service centers and ONLY work performed by them will be covered by warranty.(usually this applies even if you are a professional in this area. ) But keep that safety first and foremost in mind.
I wouldn't use the hotplate on just any surface. We placed it on a large piece of marble so there wouldn't be any damage from a hot fire.
we used this to boil water for coffee, make bacon and eggs in a teflon pan. I don't know if product info specifies pot and pan materials that should or should not be used.
