that depends on how hot you want your shower to be. Also remember you must have a minimum flow rate to turn it on.

Can I hook this up to my "hot" water line in under the sink, which frequently has cold water coming out for a few minutes....?
Asked by: Bill
Not recommended. This unit does not detect incoming water temperature and it is not modulated, meaning it does not regulate its own water temperature depending on flow rate. You could possibly do it but then you would be constantly turning it off once the hot water from the other heater reaches the faucet. Then, you would need to turn it back on the next time. What a pain.

Instead of being hard wired , can a plug be installed on it?

I have a WH in the attic with a plug instead of a hard wire, so the plug is already up there. I want to replace the WH with this, but need to know if a plug can be wired onto it.
Asked by: 444sss
if your local codes allow it a plug like what you find on an electric stove will carry the voltage and current this device demands. A standard house plug and socket will not.

I purchased this for a single point use (warm water to a basement sink) and I'm still looking for plumber to install it. The "manual" is cryptic and there was some lack of help at Home Depot (two separate locations) for the type of wire needed to supply the electric power. The "average" star given is based on the nature of the manual and that the HD help was barely adequate.

After careful research and it being on sale, I bought this unit to put under the kitchen sink. When my 50 gal. water heater started leaking, I replaced it with a 13 kw tankless and moved it under the 2 bathrooms. This left the kitchen sink about 75 feet away. It was takin a lot of time and about 2 gallons of water before it started getting warm from the 13 kw unit. This 6.5 kw unit for just the kitchen is perfect. I was able to use the existing 30 amp breaker from the old water heater and I put a 1/4 turn water valve just before the unit to regulate the max flow and hence, the temperature. The faucet's full flow is about 1.5 to 2 gpm and I used the valve to get it down to about 1.0 gpm so that the water temp is just hot to the touch without burning or scalding. It is perfect for washing hands or doing dishes by hand. The dishwasher can then heat the water the rest of the way. The cold side of the faucet is not regulated so it still gets full flow. This unit is not modulated. Meaning, it does not regulate the temp with variable water flow. It provides only 3 settings for the 2 heater elements, one 3.0 kw, one 3.5 kw or both. This is fine for a sink if you regulate the flow. I would not recommend for a shower if you want more than 1.0 gpm flow. I think the standard shower is 2.0 gpm. Even with the 13kw, I had to reduce it to 1.5 gpm. I think a 1.75 might still work but not quite 2.0.
