It’s great. Very heavy. The wheels don’t work as well as we would like. You usually still have to drag it to move it.

After years of disappointment with various umbrella stands that either broke or fell apart, this is is the perfect design. First it is really heavy. Second, if it isn't heavy enough you have the option to place heavy objects on its completely flat surface (e.g. rocks, bricks, gold bars...). Third, the support tube is attached to the base plate by means of a through-bolt into a threaded plate welded into the tube. This design resolves the problems seen with a threaded pipe arrangement where the thread strips from the outer surface of the tube under load (because the pipe is soft steel and the threads insufficiently deep to resist the resulting shear loads from even a light wind on the umbrella). It is constructed from plate steel that will withstand a direct nuclear detonation, rather than the commonly used concrete or plastic (which degrade under sun, freeze/thaw, and moisture environments). Even if it were to rust, in 20 years time, you could just have it sandblasted and re-powder coated. Basically this is the umbrella stand a mechanical engineer would buy, as opposed to the regular umbrella bases designed by art school graduates that look nice but fall apart in three months. My only concern is that the wheels are pretty much "vestigial". I imagine a review meeting occurred with the marketing folks where they say "where's the wheels?". The engineers say "we can't fit a wheel that can carry the expected load and get it in the cost budget and packaging envelope". Then the marketing guys say "give it wheels anyway" so they fit toy wheels that really aren't useful. Best approach is to lift the whole base by the tube, or use a dolly to move it.
