Questions & Answers

Hi, I just want to know if this product has a light socket included

Asked by: James
Yes. There is a light built into it. You also have two hot wires coming from the unit, so you can isolate the light and the fan on different switches on your wall, if you want. I used it in a rental and had both wired to the same switch to ensure use of the vent fan whenever the light was turned on.

How loud is this unit

Asked by: Roadog52
Since I have a hearing problem, I had to ask my wife to respond to this question. She says that it is very quiet. All things considered, it was a good buy.

The BFQ50 installation instructions say "Warning: Do Not Use in Kitchens." That is where I want a fan. Why is this not suitable for kitchen use?
Asked by: WB
The BFQ50 has not been tested or rated for use in a kitchen. It is not recommended for this purpose.

Can the venting be installed with flexible dryer vent material?

Can the venting be installed with flexible dryer vent material?
Asked by: Stuck
Yes flex material its fine, as long as you keep it straigh with no slack and vent as short as possible. With a 70 CFM fan you should at least get 50 CFM out of it after venting, that's all the ventilation your bathroom requires. Also good practice to insulate the vent pipe with R8 Flex duct insulation, to prevent condensation.

Piece of cake,no problem at all. I took out and installed these fans through the existing opening. I set the snap in bracket through the existing opening also. The bracket requires 4 screws, I set my snap in bracket to a 2X4 in the dropped ceiling rafter. The Screw holes are for 2X6 and 2X8 construction. I just drilled 2 holes lower in the bracket and it secured it rock solid. The only reason I had to get in the tiny space is to run a new vent and rigid 4 inch flex. You can do it!!!!!!

Fairly quiet . Did have to use a 4in. to 3in. reducer (dutch ceiling too tight to get in and replace all duct). Not going to be full 100cfm but plenty for the room. After my first try where duct got bent closed. Slightly hard to pop out. Fixed with a reducer and extra duct to easily work fan in and not get duct bent closed again

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A pain to install, but it works. I choose this model fan after reviewing many models on-line. The air flow seemed good compared to the low noise rating. My number one issue with the fan was during installation. The instructions state that you cut a square hole in the ceiling the size of the base of the fan. The fan comes with an "L" shaped bracket that you then screw onto a ceiling joist. The fan is supposed to then catch on one edge of the bracket, pivot up, and snap into place onto the other end of the bracket. Great, except for one glaring problem. The fan exhaust port protrudes past the square base which prevents the fan from pivoting up into the ceiling. I tried removing the exhaust port and that helped but still no go. The only way this works is if you cut the hole larger and in the shape of the fan. But that leaves an open gap on one end of the where the hole had to me made over sized. It's as if the person who wrote the installation instructions never then tried following those instructions. The fan does work well and removes a respectable amount of humidity from the bathroom. But if I had to do it over again I'd buy a different fan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value I purchased two of these fans for my bathroom remodel project. I installed them in the ceiling with insulated duct exhaust through the roof. The installation could not be simpler. You run a wire into the box with a removable access panel and connect the ground and two conductor wires with the easily identifiable and corresponding fan wires. There is a metal fan brace that nails or screws to a ceiling joist, and the fan simply snaps into place. The ceiling cutout does not need to be any larger than the fan chassis, but if you make it over-sized, the scissor spring connected cover will accommodate about an inch on each side. Fan noise is audible but muffled. I like to hear the fan operation, so I know when it is on. The fan quickly exhausts the moist air, much faster than the fans I replaced and at a rate with which I am very pleased. My mirrors do not fog while the fan is working.
