Unfortunately, i was never able to get the device working. The idea of being able to monitor and track the air in your home is quite a tantalizing one. Specifically, you could be alerted to any dangerous air levels due to a car running, or perhaps be warned if there was a gas leak from your water heater. My phone immediate found the Airthings Wave monitor, connected, and began the setup process. Towards the end, however, was an "Update" screen. It gave the user the "option" of updating the device firmware. Except that there is no way to skip this update. So the app always forced the update, which is supposed to last 3-5 minutes. I tried a good dozen times, and got an error every time, with the app needing to be re-started each time. Total design fail here. For a connected device right out of the box, it should work every time without needing an "update." Unfortunate.

This is a handy little unit for testing air quality for six different parameters: Radon;VOC's;CO2;Humidity;Temperature and Air Pressure. The most valuable of these measurements is radon and VOC's. It has an alarm which will sound if the radon levels get too high. It links with a phone app to display the levels but you can also just wave your hand in front of the unit and a light will shine to show you the current air quality from good to bad- green, yellow or red. It connects to the app via Bluetooth so you can only get updates on your phone if you're in Bluetooth range. I had a difficult time getting my account set up but once I did it's been fine. It looks like a smoke detector but they suggest you mount it on the wall or place on a tabletop at around breathing height. I noticed my VOC levels are usually high with all of my windows closed but when I open up the windows the levels drop significantly. I also have another radon detector which I placed next to this to compare and the levels are only a couple of tenths of a point different. I deducted one star based solely on the high price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Neat product The wave plus is an indoor air detection monitor that measures your air quality. It tests for radon, carbon dioxide, and TVOCs. It also says it tracks humidity, temperature, and pressure. To begin using your wave plus, there’s an app you can download free from the app or play store. You can then pair your wave plus to the app and begin the setup process within the app. There is a 7 day calibration period for the monitor. I have been using this for about two weeks and somewhat underwhelmed. The monitor has continually monitored radon and CO2, but rarely has readings for the TVOCs, humidity, temperature, and pressure. Even when there were reading for the temperature, it’s definitely not accurate. It was correct for maybe two days, and since then has shown 32 degrees. The only two measurements that have continually tracked and actually been accurate are the radon and CO2. I’ve tried moving the monitor to different areas, and it still hasn’t been correct. This product is nice for the two detections, but it’s annoying that it does not track the other things consistently. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Airthings Wave Plus Smart Indoor Air Quality Monitor with Radon Detection. This Air Monitor has a free app (iOS/Android) that can be paired for your own personal use. Just download the app, pull the battery tab before installing your monitor and pair. Installation was easy, just use the enclosed screw and install the back of the unit in your desired place. The monitor has a strong magnet and attaches with no effort. Once my monitor was installed and paired with my phone it began monitoring the airflow. This takes a while so don’t expect immediate results. The sensors need to check your air quality. I am pleased to say my home registered ‘good air quality’. I look at the app periodically to be sure the reading remains the same. So far so good. It is comforting to know the air quality you breathe everyday is good.

Refer to Info & Guides >> Installation Guide for a detailed explanation of installation, operation, connectivity and maintenance. The app installation, pairing process, and account creation are very straight forward. It took about an hour to get our first reading and, according to the manufacturer, “first radon reading in about an hour but leave your Wave Plus uninterrupted for at least 1 week for an accurate radon reading. Radon levels fluctuate daily which is why continuous monitoring is necessary. The TVOC and CO2 sensors require at least 1 week for the initial internal calibration. Getting carbon monoxide readings would be a helpful but those are best gotten close to the ground and this is a higher-mount/ ceiling mount unit. The unit is small and unassuming. It blends in nicely to any ceiling or wall installation. For most accurate readings, avoid installation near windows or vents. The installation is very clear. Clever design! The sensor attaches to the mounting bracket by a strong magnet. A single sheetrock screw was included for securing the bracket to the ceiling, but because pulling is required to separate the unit from the base, we opted to add a drywall anchor. Two alkaline AA batteries are included (expected to provide > 1 year service based on Operating Guide).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not impressed with accuracy I am a certified home inspector and licensed residential radon tester. I purchased both Airthings Wave Plus and their professional model Corentium Pro. The Pro comes with a certificate of calibration which is good for one year. The Wave Plus reads more than 4 pCi/L high. The Wave Plus is not advertised as being a calibrated unit, however there should be published accuracy parameters that the unit should be held to. The inaccurate radon function calls into question the other readings. In my opinion the cost of the device is not worth the poor level of accuracy that I have experienced.

The single screw attachment is a great help, I hate hanging smoke alarms because of lining up 2 screws. The Wave then attaches with a magnet to the base. Batteries are included and a little plastic tab needs to be pulled before use. Use: The wave can be used with or without the smartphone app. If used without, it has a light ring that changes color to indicate the air quality. The App: Download and install from Google Play for Android. Setup an account so the data can be stored and retrieved for trends. It asks for your location both as a physical address and a room. The address doesn't have to be exact but is best if set to at least the town. The settings are simple for metric or US units. After 1 hour the results start coming in. The results are then collected periodically and graphed. With so many sensors it gives a bigger picture of true air quality. It is interesting to see the carbon dioxide increase when more people are home. Communication: The Wave communicates by Bluetooth with your smartphone or tablet. Note that bluetooth v4.2 is required so some older devices will not work. Bottom line: great to know the Radon levels. What was a safe level when the house was built or purchased can change over time. Ours is borderline so keeping an eye on the long term trend will help evaluate the need for a mitigation system. All the other sensors are helpful for anyone with allergies or asthma.

I ordered it because my house was professional tested for radon 3 years ago and it was borderline for radon remediation. It had been below what is required. We never felt comfortable about that fact and put the Airthings device in our home and let it run for a week. The results are easily seen from your smartphone app. Getting setup was very easy (if you are comfortable with apps). I only had a registration issue that I had quickly resolved by customer support chat on the website. Other than that it has been very simple. Don't let the other reviews scare you off from this product. I learned in real time what my air quality was in our home. What you will learn is that certain things will make or break the air quality. We used the device as we came into a nice spring warm spell. The gas furnace won't in use so we saw the CO2 levels drop as a result. I will not be working with my HVAC guy to pinpoint what is causing the CO2 leaks in the home. It also confirmed that my radon levels are still slightly below what is recommended for remediation work. The device looks like an Apple designed product. It is about the size of a smoke detector and would blend away nicely on a ceiling mounted site. I have included a picture of the app showing my current readings and the device itself. You can mount on a wall or ceiling and waving your hand across it will tell you the status but a green, yellow and red light for overall air quality. I find it a great tool for homes that are ever more tightened up with insulation etc.
