Questions & Answers

How often should i fertilize my tomato's in 4-5 gallon pots.

My plants were very leafy and i had little brown bottom tomato's. I pruned plant back and remove bad tomato's. Added your product and watered.
Asked by: gbest
Gbest; Since your satisfaction is guaranteed by both The Home Depot and Pennington you really can't go wrong following the package directions. They recommend applying a 1/2 cup per gallon of soil every six weeks and carefully raking it in. The also suggest caution so as not to damage the roots near the surface. I hope that helps, Hank

Pennington 3 lb. Dry Vegetable and Tomato Fertilizer is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saves Me Time My vegetable plants are growing big and the leaves are a healthily green color after applying this fertilizer. The other reason I like this product is that it saves me time seeing it's a time released fertilizer. I don't have to keep reapplying it every 2 weeks.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't use if you have animals This is a great fertilizer there is a very attractive odor. My cat and my two dogs would not stay away from the garden and ate as many pellets as they could dig up. Although non toxic ,it causes belly ache ,vomiting. It isnt worth my animals being sick and vet bills to have this fertilizer. I am sharing this to spare you the hassle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bountiful is what you get when using this product. ... Bountiful is what you get when using this product. This a must have for my garden from now on. I have struggled for years trying to grow tomatoes. Tried Alaska fish fertilizer for the 1st time this year . And we have had a bumper crop. It is shocking how big the plants have gotten. I have never gotten so many eggplants or seen the plants get so big and covered with blooms.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alaska is a great fertilizer worhy of the Pennington name and reputation. Depending on whose philosophy you follow in gardening, a mild fertilizer like Alaska by Pennington feeds the soil and the soil feeds your plants through the delicate root hairs. With a mild fertilizer like this you're much less apt to shock your plants or experience what is commonly referred to as nutrient burn. Regular applications of mild fertilizers are required during the growing season keep your plants producing at their maximum potential. This is an especially good fertilizer to apply at regular intervals for tomatoes and a variety of vegetables. Just follow the directions on the package.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great Varmint Treat ! Always seeking organic sources for my garden, with the added draw of a trusted name brand, I was eager to try Alaska Pennington Vegetable/Tomato Dry Fertilizer. VERY 'organic' scent on opening the bag, but this should be good, right? Several squirrels, one skunk and a couple of raccoons certainly thought so. They thoroughly dip through my large planted pots, ignoring the tomatoes and peppers, but decimating the soil and roots to get to the tasty smelling treats. We both tried, Pennington, but I'll stick to your grass seed and my home made compost!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easiest to use I only recently planted so I can't speak for effectiveness. However, it was a nice surprise to open the bag and see something that looks like rabbit feed. This fertilizer is pelleted, requires no mixing of any type, claims not to burn, and has easy instructions on the bag. It smelled fishy when I received it, but the smell didn't bother me once I was outside and I didn't object to using my hands to spread the pellets. The pellets have not completely dissolved after 4 waterings so I feel that there is some residual benefit.
