Q:is this easy to drill a hole though?

A: Any wood is realatively easy to drill. Use wood drills, not metal drills for best results. Use a smaller drill than the 1/4" inch first to drill a pilot hole to prevent grain drifting 'the bit drills offset following the woods grain' followed by the 1/4" bit.

Hardwood?

This says hardwood in the description. If this is hardwood, it is the softest hardwood I have ever seen. It compresses like pine. Don't be fooled. This is not oak or some other hardwood.

I purchased many of several sizes of this dowel to...

I purchased many of several sizes of this dowel to spruce up my parakeet aviary. I went crazy using tree branches, searching the woods for days, until I realized they preferred the dowels! Their aviary is still full of natural branches and man-made perches, but these dowels are definitely favored.
