This stuff is terrible. Has some nasty grain and stains poorly. Unless you're going to paint this, look elsewhere. Now I'm way behind schedule on my kitchen and more out of cash because of this garbage + stain. Sorry, had high hopes.

I gave this moulding every chance, but it is garbage, as someone else here put it. I specifically read the description to see if it was labeled as paint grade, and it wasn't, so that should mean that it would stain properly. It just doesn't. I figure it you are doing some sort of really dark stain or semi-transparent stain that maybe it would work out, but the grain is very splotchy and parts of the wood don't take stain at all, so there are random light spots. It's awful. It was unusable for me. Even after staining it, I took it to return it and they gave me a refund. I wanted pine to match the species of my baseboards, which stained up just fine, but after returning these I bought HD's oak ones, and they did much better. I'm giving it a second star only for the fact that you could use them for paint grade, but maybe that's generous.
This met our needs perfectly! We stained it with Minwax Red Mahogany stain to trim out our Brazil...

More importantly, after an online disaster (ordered this product, got white finish instead), we were able to return it to our local store. We were instantly refunded the cost to our credit card, and there was enough product in store to purchase replacement molding the same day. We were shown the utmost helpful attitude by Carlton Rose, Millwork Specialist, pulling out all the 10' lengths so my husband could select the pieces he wanted...( online only offered 8' lengths...shipping restrictions?) Online, when I selected to see how many lengths were in our local store, I got a message that there were only 3. Wrong!
Home Depot continues to amaze me...we do a lot of work here in and around our home and it is our "go-to" place to get what we need with knowledgeable and friendly staff.
