I would not suggest painting this heated towel rack; it is stainless which would require a surface prep and any type of paint in a bathroom/shower/tub environment would be prone to paint failure without exact prep work.

Where do I purchase the timer that goes with this unit?
Asked by: Kris
Hi Kris, any brand of programmable timer - either a countdown style or programmable style - can be used with this towel warmer. Home Depot sells several different options that you can purchase to go with the towel warmer.

24 in. W x 20 in. H 8-Bar Radiant Shelf Electric Towel Warmer in Brushed Stainless Steel is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Towel rack Item came in great packaging, all parts were included in box and directions were simple and clear. Heats up quickly in about 20 min it will be ready and towels will be warm in 30 to 40 minutes, I have left it on steady for a week and everything is still working. Easy installation and quality product in brush SS. I was amazed that I could attach the wall connectors, round cylinders in four places and they all slid into the heater pipes without any trouble. I also purchases a timer wall switch to not have the unit running all the time. I got this towel rack to serve two purposes. One was to give us somewhere to hang our towels to dry and two I like scruffy towels. The result is a 100% success. This unit is a120V 110W with 1.0A of a power draw and it will heat up to 145F so watch yourself and do not touch with sensitive parts of your arm it will burn you. In addition this unit come with conversion kit if you should decide to direct wire yours to the power. Overall the entire product is functional and looking as advertised.

This radiant shelf electric towel warmer is a really good towel warmer at a good price. I have seen some towel warmers go for a lot more. You can either plug it in a regular 120v outlet or have it hard wired for a more cleaner look. I have never had one of these so I can't really compare it to anything but it seems to work fine to me. Does take some time for the towels to warm up but if you turn it on a little before you shower it is nice and warm when you get out. Installs easily with four pegs and allen screws.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Radiant Shelf Electric Towel Warmer I am quite impressed with the Towel Warmer kit and the finish on the metal tubing. I plugged it in before I mounted it and it only took about 15 minutes to warm up. I found turning the towel warmer on when I wake up gives it time to warm up when I am ready for my shower. It even seems to help the towels dry out when I am done. The instructions state the Towel warmer is designed to run continuously. I usually turn it off but it's nice to know it can stay on all day. The installation can be quite simple, just mark the wall as per the dimensions on the instruction page. Then insert the supplied wall anchors and the mounting hardware, then mount the towel rack. The towel rack comes with a cord and plug if you have a outlet near the rack. The kit also comes with the hardware to hard wire it to a wall mounted electric box which is a bit more involved. The instructions also state that the unit should be connected to a GFCI outlet or circuit. I am very pleased with how this unit looks and performs. The Towel Warmer comes with a 2 year warranty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Practical Towel Warmer This towel rack in a brushed finish goes well with brushed stainless fixtures. It heats in about 20 minutes and has the capability to be installed with the attached cord or can be mounted over a junction box for a hard wired application; an optional timer is available. There is a lighted on/off switch mounted on the bottom of one of the vertical bars. There are several different styles available in this series; this one has a top horizontal shelf which is great for warming more towels or folded towels, just be sure that you have the room for this additional projection.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Attractive and practical Provided unit is 23.5" wide, 18" high and 14" deep. Finish is good, with the exception that my wife commented on some spot welding not being too neat. Once mounted to the wall, this should be a non-issue as regards strength of the unit. All necessary hardware is provided for mounting to the wall. The attached cord with molded plug is used for plug-in use. A chrome junction box cover and additional leg are provided for hardwiring. Hardwiring requires the molded plug be cut off and the wiring connected in the junction box. The junction box cover has its own ground wire, which needs to be included in the ground wiring - this is not shown in the installation instructions. If not comfortable working with building wiring, connecting the unit is best left to a licensed electrician. There is a power switch and light at the base of the left vertical leg. Whether plugging in or hardwiring the unit, power must be provided via a GFCI. This is as much a safety issue as it is a NEC (National Electric Code) requirement. There is a cautionary label on the back of the right leg, just above where the power cord exits, but this is almost unreadable even before mounting the unit and impossible to read once mounted. The text provides the model number, power requirements, current usage, and warnings to not immerse in water or use in a wet location. This label should be placed by the manufacturer so that it can easily be read after installation. The unit warmed up fairly quickly. Current draw was measured at 900mA to 930mA at 121V resulting in measured consumption of 109W to 112W, matching the manufacturers specifications. This is slightly more current than used by a 100W incandescent light bulb. The bars heated unevenly, with some getting too hot to hold and others not. The same result was observed after installation with towels in place. Measurements provided in the installation instructions give on-center distances between the mounting 'feet' as 22 3/8" horizontally and 9 13/16" vertically. Actual measurements varied from 22 1/4" to 22 5/16" and from 9 7/8" to 9 13/16", respectively. There is limited tolerance in the mounting assembly for mistakes, so I recommend fixing one mounting 'spool' to the wall and marking the remaining points with the unit temporarily positioned over that mounting point. If hardwiring, it would be beneficial to mount the direct-wire extension to the unit, attach the cover plate to the junction box, then use the extension as the basis for determining locations for the mounting feet. The provided nylon screw mountings are messy to install and difficult to position with any precision. I was fortunate to hit wood with my mounting points and used a 1/8" bit to drill pilot holes for the screws. Had I needed to mount into drywall, my choice would be to use 3/16" short hollow wall anchors for more-accurate and stronger attachment points. Once the spools are firmly attached to the wall, the unit is located over them and locked into place with the provided grub screws. Overall, this is an attractive and practical unit, though consideration must be given to the shelf intruding into an already-small bathroom. It would also help to add a timer in the circuit to avoid inadvertently leaving it on for extended periods.
