Do I really need the universal frame kit?

Asked by DD October 1, 2020

I am not fully aware of your exact situation...but I did not need a universal frame kit for the unit I purchased and installed.

Can this be transported when in original packaging laying flat or does it have to be vertical?

Asked by slain13 August 14, 2020

The original packaging was pretty good on mine. I picked mine up in a small Chevy S10 pick up truck and laid it down at an angle from the inside left wheel well across to the right side top of the bed, used one ratchet strap for piece of mind. No problems and I drove 52 miles like that at hwy speeds.

Why is there water puddling on the bottom track (outside and inside) every time it rains? Please ...

Asked by Hashbrown August 5, 2020

This is usually caused by the weep holes being plugged with dirt/debris. If it is a new door, then possibly a bad install, maybe drain paths blocked with sealant. Best bet if new door, have installer return to fix it. If old door, look at cleaning out the weep holes. Don't wait! You could be looking at rotting floors, etc. Note that there were some doors that were designed very poorly. If you have one of these, best to replace before any underlying damage gets much worse.

Nothing but problems
I bought this because it was well priced and convenient to transport as it came in kit form. The frame went together fairly well, and was installed fairly easily, from there the problems started. The slider ground along its rails, even after numerous attempts to adjust it, and even at the end of it you still have to use all of your weight to open and close it. There was a crack in the door frame at the bottom where the wheels were installed. The screen door was another nightmare, the part numbers aligned, but the channel 5/8" wide and the 3/4" wide screen door certainly did not...This "easily installed" product quickly went from quick Saturday project to all day problem in a hurry. I would not recommend this product. Thankfully the kind service rep from HD offered to refund me for the door.

We bought six of these doors four years ago. We had no problems installing them. They still look great. It's not a luxury door but they have served the purpose we bought them for very nicely.

Great doors for a great price. Replaced 2 original doors when my house was new 30 years ago. Quality is much better than the old doors. Opens and closes more smoothly, feels more solid, vinyl covered frames will help it to last longer unlike my original doors which rotted at the bottom. Handles and locks are more heavy duty than the original. Very pleased with these doors.

series 50 gliding with blinds in door...not impressed.
All I can say is, open box number 1. first one brought to job site and half of the pieces were missing. the flanges missing. the hardware missing. sill missing. instructions missing. had to waste more time going back to home depot. got new box, made sure to open it at store to check. Again, hardware missing. So, store guy got another box, opened that, and again, missing parts. It was almost comical. And they looked like brand new sealed boxes. Horrible quality control Im guessing at american craft. So, installing door, jam frame easy to assemble. Fit right in rough opening. But absolutely no rigidity to it, so really need to shim it very good and bottom run also very flimsy, so needs good overhang support. On to the doors. Relatively easy install, aside from directions not the best at explaining procedure. after numerous attempts to adjust slider, door still difficult to slide. Much force needed. Owner has small grandkids and I would only guess they wouldnt be able to open it at present state. And literally had wheels all the way down. On to the lock. Not sure why they couldnt put a little more thought into this. Complete crap. You have to pretty much slam door in order to have catch meet plate. And horrible adjust-ability. I would advise getting your door rollers perfect before installing catch plate as any height adjustment throws off the alignment. Overall, I would never buy this door myself. Spend the extra money and get an andersen or one piece unit. Too much room for error and the money saved will only add up to disappointment. It would seem the only reason to buy this door is cost effectiveness, definitely not for a quality product. I hate to say it, but dont see it lasting very long the way its made. The cheap plastic sill, compared to all others being aluminum is also a joke. The only nice thing is the inside adjustable blinds. But if those are made anything like rest of door, not expecting them to hold up to any sort of prolonged use...Overall opinion? stay away from american crap...i mean craft...lol. they set themselves up for that one.
