Most rocks are small!
I almost returned these. However, I decided to give them a try anyway since my application was *not* for a fire pit, but rather, a bird bath. When I opened the package, there were a couple of the rocks that looked "medium" but mostly the bag was full of rocks that were barely 1/2" (minimum advertised) size.
The second attached photo here shows them placed in the top of the birdbath pot. It is 15 inches on a side and there is a hardware cloth underlayment that is (estimate) a 1/4" on center grid. Many of the "rocks" fell through these squares into the bottom of the pot as I spread them out. (Those are medium round smoothed black pebbles in the corner and *not* from the purchased package. Would not recommend this product without research. Buyer beware.

While this fire rock was a nice even black color this was a relatively small bag for $17 and volume was less than what was indicated in the description; probably because most of the bag were on the smaller end of the 1/2" to 1" scale and a significant amount smaller than 1/2". Would take two $17 bags to fill my firepit which is a 16" square 2" deep.
