Q:Can you 'nickel gap' these boards to look like shiplap or do they have to butt up to each other?

Answer This Question

A:  Yes you could. It is only 1/4" thick so I would put something like 1/4" Lathe wood behind it at the bottom of the piece you are putting on top, and on top of the lower piece so you don't crack it when nailing through. I suggest brad nails if you can, or something that won't show much. I butt them together, which looks fine. in larger gaps I used drywall spackle so there would be no shine like caulk would.

Q:Do you have to use liquid nails or adhesive with product? Or will nailing them suffice?

Answer This Question

A:  We decided to use both because without the liquid nails the boards will be sticking up in spots. Its suppose to be very rustic, so uneven looking. Hope that helps

Answer This Question

A:  Hi to answer your question.......yes they can be lightly cleaned with a soft micro fiber towel. They have a slightly rough surface as this is what reclaimed lumber or rustic wood would seem like. Hope this answers your question. And good luck on your project.....ScottE

A:  The planks aren't sealed so anything that gets on them will absorb.

The product does what I wanted it do. Most of the pieces are not completely flat, that can add to the character. Some small gaps will occur over a large wall, I found a non shine filler like drywall spackle works well to hide larger gaps, small ones leave alone. The Brad nailer does a good job following box instructions. Great accent wall. It is only an 1/4" thick so use accordingly. Works very well with a miter or table saw.

RE: American Pacific - 3/8 inch x 5-1/2 inch x 4 foot Coastal Ivory Planking (8-Piece per Box), White This is some really nice planking. Others have stated their planking was bowed, but I didn't find that to be the case with mine. However, mine has been laying flat in a hot garage for over a week now, so maybe that helped flatten it. One side has a smoother finish than the other, so it's your choice if you want a finished look or a more rustic look.

These coastal white planks have a nice weathered, old wood look to them. You may choose to use the weathered or the resawn side, although in this stain color I'm not too crazy about the noticeable "stripes" on the resawn side. The coastal white has a whitewashed feel to it, and the manufacturer recommends using Behr Solid color stain in "Drizzle". When installed on the wall, these planks give the impression of the ever-popular shiplap look. They are solid wood and as such will be prone to the slight imperfections of a natural product.

Too expensive. One plank (5.5 in x 47.5 in) will cost you $4. Also the product has a VERY strong chemical smell. I have the planks already for 2 weeks, but all my house still stinks. First two nights I couldn't sleep due to headache. Now positive moments. It's a real high quality wood painted in white color. All boards are streight and even. The boards don't bend or curve. The boards don't crack while nailing. I haven't tried to glue them, so I cannot say if they stick well. It is really easy to work with this material. Unfortunately, you can easily see dirt on white surfase. Still it's nice as a decoration for dark or real wood planks. If the price and the chemical smell don't bother you, it's a right material for your project.

I used 4 different colors of this product to do a multi-colored accent wall. The four colors that I used in my project were Charred Wood, Barn Board Gray, Coastal Ivory, and Reclaimed Brown. I did not have any problems with flaws or warping with this Coastal Ivory color. I did however have significant warping problems with the Charred Wood color so keep that in mind if you are using multiple colors. . I included a picture of the chipped edges. The flaws are much less noticeable since this is a light color. You can either make a clean cut on the edge to get rid of the chips or use some touch up paint. The "finished side" of this product is smooth. The back of the product is just slightly more rough. You can use either side that you wish. I used the finished side, but they both look similar. What I really like about the product is that the boards are very light weight. I previously did a similar accent wall with laminate and laminate is significantly heavier and much harder to install on a wall. This light weight product could really be installed by anyone without much problem.

This is a great product if you want to do a quick and easy wall covering, that adds an elegant charm to any room. Note that the pieces are a bit bowed, but we liked the look and think that it adds to the charm. There are 2 sides to the boards. One gives a weathered look that we like, and the other has a rough sawn look for a different feel. I think it also looks great when you mix the colors, for a total restoration look. It's easy to install with construction adhesive and brad nails. We used ours for a headboard for our bed. The possibilities are endless!! Its entirely up to you!

The American Pacific Coastal Ivory Planking is beautiful. It is lightweight and easy to apply to a wall or as a backing for a cabinet. The panels can also be used for a decorative trim or light shelving. I love the soft, natural look. It has a deep, pickled finish but needs to be handled with care so it isn't gauged by sharp instruments. It can also warp if exposed to elements for too long.

After seeing this design idea featured in a variety of home design magazines, I'd entertained the thought of adding planking to an interior wall. So when I saw this coastal ivory planking from American Pacific, I thought I would try plank wainscoting on a dull wall in my main hallway. When I opened each box, I found half of the planks in each were bowed/warped. I understand the concept of a rustic appearance, but the flaws on these planks were more than I anticipated. I decided to tack each plank in place with a single paneling nail at the top & bottom, to see if I liked the overall look. When I needed to cut a plank to accommodate a light switch, the wood was quite easy to cut, thought it did tend to splinter as I cut it with a fine-tooth Japanese saw. I tried alternating the weathered or resawed sides of each plank, to add interest to the wainscoting. But the degree of bowing/cupping in many of the planks made the process frustrating -- and I was not pleased with the number of shadows cast by those bowed edges. I realized pretty quickly that the only way to get these planks to lay flat against the wall would be to use both construction adhesive and flathead nails, then add a finish trim along the top, as they also varied in length. Overall, pretty disappointed in this offering from American Pacific.
