YOu can use caulk (dark brown) & caulk the joints & add testure to match beams then take a piece of the beam into paint store at Home Depot & get a sample can to match color perfectly. 2. You can buy rubber beam strapping as i did and put the strap around the joint & hold with small nail or screw See my pic.

We bought an extra 13 foot beam and cut it to size to fill in the shortfall.

Thanks for your inquiry. The dark walnut is already really dark. I would suggest purchasing a small sample piece for your review. If you need it darker, we would suggest for you to purchase our Unfinished one and stain it yourself with the proper color you desire.

It's pretty sturdy material. You could probably use it for encasing the mantle, but my only concern would be the heat that the fireplace puts off. If it's strictly decorative and the fireplace isn't used, I don't see why you couldn't do so.

I don't see any reason why they can't be painted. Since they are pretty dark, however, it might take more than one coat of paint. After we placed our order, the company sent us a sample even though we did not request it, in order to make sure we were happy with the product before they actually shipped the beams. If they do that for everyone, and I'm guessing they probably do (at least for now), you could always paint the sample and decide.
