I bought this unit to replace an old failing electric tank type water heater in my garage. It has been on and running for a week now and I love it. It will pay for itself several times over as it is gas and ultra efficient and I plan on staying in my home for many years. Installation was a pain and my home needed a 3/4 inch gas line ran to make the unit work with no issues. Some applications/installations may be able to get away with a 1/2 inch gas line, but we did not want to chance it, so our plumber ran several feet of new larger gas line. Please note that the Home Depot plumbing contractor in our area was not familiar, comfortable, or confident with installing a unit like this so I had to find and use my own plumber. This unit is bigger and heaver than most other thankless units (about 80 pounds with no water or piping) and just handling it and mounting it is a two person job. But it's much lighter and more space saving than a large tank type water heater, but we did have to install a plywood board onto the wall to mount the unit; it's own weight was ripping it out of the studs. I would not recommend installing this unless you are a pro plumber or approaching pro plumber status handy-work.

I'm fairly pleased with the unit and how it operates. Initially I had some issues, as there was internal minor damage. Had I not opened the cabinet I'd have never known though. Some of the plastic duct had popped apart, and an electrical connection was dangling as if the assembler just missed connecting it. All in all, the extra hassle was worth it to me as the price on this unit was a few hundred dollars less than the most popular units.

I hate it, it takes almost 4 minutes of running the bathroom sink on high before the water gets hot two minutes and you start getting a little warm water, but four minutes before you actually have hot water. When it starts up you can feel the vibration, you can hear the noise all away from the basement that's how loud this unit is. Paid a professional to come out and install it, that cost $840. I had a 40 gallon hot water tank, thought I was going to be upgrading when I installed the tankless system, I would've been much better off just installing a larger tank hot water heater this has been a nightmare!!!! At this point in time I think I'm just going to yank it out and put in a tank And forget the tankless system.

Less than 4 years in and it doesn't work and can't get ahold of manufacturer
We had this unit installed in August of 2017. By Spring of 2021 (Less than 4 years later) it is constantly malfunctioning. I have had 2 different plumbing companies look at it and not be able to fix it and, even worse, when they call technical support, there are constant phone issues and can'r get though to speak with someone. I finally called myself today and when they answered, I could hear her and apparently she couldn't hear me. Funny how the plumbing company and myself both have issues connecting to their support line. It looks like I am going to have to buy a new unit despite paying over $2000 for the unit and installation less than 4 years ago (within the 5 year warranty but American Standard Water Heater company can't be reached to rectify).

            product is garbage
I purchased two of these tankless water heaters two years ago for two rental properties in an effort to save energy when compared to traditional water heaters. Both heaters have been nothing but problems. They throw error codes and stop producing hot water about 3-4 times per year even with regular maintenance flushing. The plumber costs alone to try to figure out the problem cost me about 30 times more than the money I have saved on my utility bill with the tankless unit. The product is hard to trouble shoot. Various plumbers can't seem to find the problem on either unit, which are installed in two completely separate houses and are only two years old. Both products are under warranty from the manufacturer but their customer service department is terrible. They are unhelpful when various plumbers call the customer service to try to figure out what is wrong with the unit. One part we needed was promised to be shipped immediately but 8 days later we still haven't' received it and the other part we need they said is "out of stock and they don't know when it will be back in stock." In the meantime, we haven't had hot water for 8 days now because these replacement parts can only be purchased from the manufacturer and they don't know when it will be back in stock. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!! DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! Both units that I purchased break down frequently, turning the water to ice cold in the middle of a shower, and the manufacturer doesn't even stock the necessary replacement parts to repair them when they break while still under warranty. This product is complete garbage!
