Seat impossible to clean
Was excited to have a sleek, flat-sided toilet, but never imagined the seat would be so hard to completely clean. First, looking at the photo, one can see all the nooks that are just catch-alls for dirt and nasties. Even worse, there is no gap between where the seat is attached to the bowl. A messy user will inevitably get urine under that bar, and there is no way to completely clean it without taking the seat totally off! Believe me, you will go crazy trying to figure out where that smell is coming from! I even tried steam cleaning, but there is still no way to completely wipe up and dry that area.

      5 Star
Great toilet. Comes with soft close lid. The seat isn’t large and flat so I would keep that in mind. It comes with everything you need to install. Installation is a little difficult because of trying to hold onto the toilet and set it on the mounting bolts. I recommend having help. But it looks great, very clean lines.

        Beautiful BUT... May Return it
I may return it because of uncomfortable seat that bothers my back and shape of the seat is higher and curved to make it very uncomfortable to sit on. Seat seems too small for 250LBS 6 feet tall guy may be because of its design. Nice Toilet but here are some Positives and negatives Positives: 1- Base is sturdy. 2- Flushing is great 3- very nice looking and compact for small spaces Negatives: 1- Base is very heavy 2- Seat is very uncomfortable and too close to the front end even after adjusting it to create room. This was the reason I replaced my round toilet. You have to hold the private part in downward direction so you won't pee allover on the edge of your seat. 3- Installing Flex Hose in small space is not fun especially if you are right handed 4- waterman is made of very thin porcelain so possibility of cracking it is high

Difficult to install, but good when done!
1st of all kudos to home depot in giving me a price adjustment to a 50.00 lower sales price even though they had already been delivered. Helps me want to be loyal to them ! Probably not quite as comfortable seating as we hoped, but fully acceptable. Hard to get aligned and tightened down and hard to get seat tight. But they do work well and look good. Very good for guest baths, but probably not daily use master bath comfort. All in all, a good buy for the reduced price...

The toilet wasn't painted all the way around. On the back of the lid and the back of the tank are large swaths of raw material with no glaze or white finish. It looks like the reject from the assembly line. I didn't notice it until it was already installed by my contractor--not sure why he didn't notice or say anything. Too much for a half finished toilet.

            Disappointed
I remodeled my bathroom 2yrs ago and bought one of your toilets. I’m so disappointed with the quality. Not only (even after constant cleaning) did the inside of the toilet get a harsh brown stain within 6 months (that cant even be removed with bleach) but now the tank is cracked and leaking. Every other toilet I’ve had in my lifetime has lasted years without an issue besides normal wear and tear. This is the first time I’ve purchased American Standard and I am very unhappy with your product.

Difficult to keep the seat tight
We've had this for about two months and the seat keeps coming loose! It's also a headache to get the bolts tightened. And, the seat doesn't always stay up when you need it to.

                Don't get this brand
The seat is really difficult to install so that it doesn't loosen up. Also, the seat doesn't stay up half the time when you want it to. The look is okay and the rest of it functions well, but it's a pain to have the seat moving all of the time.

we replaced 30 year old water guzzlers with this 1.28 gal flush model. Unit is sleek looking and easy to clean due to sides being smooth, not revealing the trap way. Toilet flushes like a champ and have had no clogging issues. Uses standard and easy to change out mechanics from Fluidmaster from Home Depot, if ever needed. Looking forward to $100 rebate per toilet from local water provider and lowering our water and sewage bills.

Wanting to upgrade my master bath I was delighted to get this American Standard toilet! It comes in 2 pieces and also includes the seat. I love when a manufacturer makes things simple! I wanted a taller toilet, but what I like the most is the clean appearance of the toilet over all. No more looking at toilet bolts ( ugh- even when capped) ! This toilet has nice clean lines and overall is a great choice!

This American Standard Cadet 3 Decor Tall Height Toilet is very nice and definitely brings an elegance to a typical bathroom. I travel quite a bit for work and this toilet reminds me a lot of what you see in more high-end hotel rooms. The bowl is nice and elongated and you sit rather high compared to a typical toilet. The footprint was slightly smaller than my previous toilet so I had quite a bit of cleanup to do before the install to get the outline of the old toilet off the tile. Apart from the appearance, the installation was not that easy, compared to a typical toilet installation. The installation is the only reason this toilet didn't get 5 stars. The floor bolts on this toilet are hidden on the inside behind the side walls and you have side ports that you use to insert the wing nuts and line up the base. If you have big stubby hands like I do, this isn't easy. My wife helped me install it and she had some issue getting the wing nuts in place also. They give you covers that pop on over the ports when you're done. As for the rest of the install, the saving grace was that the internal mechanical components are already installed, all you have to do is install the water line and the tank bolts. This was also a little tricky because you don't have access from the side to get under the tank, you have to reach around the back to do it. Also, while tightening the water line check to see what direction the water supply valve is facing on the inside of the tank. The tank is small so it's a bit cramped and my water supply valve was turned so that the float came up under the flush handle and got stuck, I had to take the top off the water supply valve and rotate it so it wouldn't interfere anymore. There is a possibility this happened while I was tightening the water supply line, it may have rotated the internals when I finished tightening it. All in all, I would buy this toilet again because it's streamlined and attractive, and it's really easy to clean because you don't have all of the external circular shapes and hidden parts that regularly collect dirt, the seamless sides just wipe right up. And now I know what difficulties I face in installing another one of these so I can prepare ahead of time. FYI - check your current toilet before you install the new one, I had to leave to go get a much thicker wax ring and longer flange bolts than are supplied with the toilet because I have extra thick tile installed on my floor. If you know this stuff ahead of time the process will move much quicker.

Tentatively recommend. After opening the box, taking inventory and inspecting the parts, I decided not to install this in a master bathroom which is where we needed an upgrade. The good news though is that all the ceramic parts in my sample arrived intact with no evidence of cracks or attempted repairs. The shipping weight on the invoice says over 115 lbs and it's just shipped in a cardboard box. I was relieved to find everything intact with no damage. All parts that should be included according to instructions are accounted for. The toilet seat which is plastic was tucked alongside the heavy bowl, so just be careful when you're moving the box around not to drop it on its side or slam it around. The finish on exposed parts are intact with no dents or scratches. I'm not confident I could install this by myself, will probably hire a plumber to be on the safe side. There are things I don't like about this set up. The toilet seat is plastic and hollow. It looks very cheap, and will no doubt be a pain to keep clean with all the nooks and crannies. The handle is also plastic, quite obviously so. I'd need to replace that, too. The toilet bowl and seat are slightly longer than what we're replacing which is okay, but it's also narrower. I'm thinking the bigger family members who come to visit might have some problems using that potty. Now, I do like the appearance overall, it's clean lines and simplicity. We take care of other houses so we'll save this for when we need it. But the cheap parts, hiring a plumber, more complicated installation that will take longer... it's all adding up. Just not quite good enough for the master bath. Care instructions say to clean toilet only with mild soap and water. No drop ins allowed for the tank.

Well this American Standard Cadet 3 Decor Tall Height Elongated Toilet is by far harder to install compared to a standard toilet because the hold down bolt holes are hidden inside the toilet assembly. It came with a slow close plastic toilet seat If they had included the water inlet hose that would have been a complete unit. Because the water inlet connector hole is also hidden inside it can be very hard to connect. Over all I gave 3 stars for install because it is so hard to do.. The hold down bolts seem smaller than others. It is a pretty toilet and uses very little water with the mechanics inside being pretty standard. I have installed many toilets and did this one myself but would not recommend to beginners. Also if you use other toilet seats they are extremely hard to install. Stay with the one supplied.

Positively gorgeous! I wouldn't generally say that about a toilet, but what a beautiful toilet this is. First of all, installation was relatively easy -- it took my husband about 2 hours to remove our old toilet and install this one. All of the hardware is hidden, and it will make it extremely easy to keep clean -- none of those nooks and crannies. It works beautifully and we are thrilled!

The Cadet 3 is a nice looking toilet, 1.28 gallons per flush and the straight sides make it easy to clean. I found it more difficult to install than a typical two piece toilet. The base is extremely heavy and the mounting holes are "hidden" inside - a nice styling touch but it makes installation a very tough job for one person. I put tape on the floor as the instructions suggest to show where the holes should line up, but that didn’t help much. It will be much easier if you find someone to help with that step, although volunteers tend to be pretty scarce when you mention you're replacing a toilet. Attaching the tank was also a bit of a challenge. A special tool is included for that, but you have to do it by feel, reaching behind and under the tank to put on the plastic washers, then thread and tighten the nuts (again from below and behind). You have to crank pretty hard to get the tank seated securely – it’s awkward but doable. Surprisingly hooking up the water supply line also proved difficult. The water inlet is behind and under the tank, tucked into a corner of a recessed area. It’s impossible to see and difficult to reach. The new water supply line I bought had a metal connector and I was unable to get it securely threaded onto the flush valve, which has soft plastic threads. So make sure you use a supply line with a PLASTIC connector on the end; despite zero visibility and awkward access, you will then be able to get the water supply hooked up properly. The Cadet 3 looks good, it works very well, and the installation issues I encountered can be overcome with an extra set of hands and a supply line with plastic connector. Or just hire a plumber.

If you are tall (>5’10”], this is the toilet for you! BEST FEATURE is the 16 1/2” seat height!! Also, DONT FORGET to replace your ‘supply line’.... New Toilet, new supply line, new wax seal...!!! you will thank me in the long run. This is a sturdy, elongated closet style toilet. At 17” wide, it can fit into almost any space, especially if you are working in an older home where they did not allow much room for the toilet, like an ‘outhouse water closet room’ or a Guest Bathroom situation. It is the newer water saver style tank with only 1.28 gal per flush. The box did come with everything except a new supply line. easy to follow instructions and It took us about 30 minutes start to finish to take out the old toilet and install the new one. GREAT VALUE and classic style. We stayed with white in anticipation of changing the bathroom wall colors in the future.

The review is a little better than the rating given, mostly because what I don’t like about this toilet is the seat. It is self soft closing which I liked, but the way it fastens to the toilet it self is very weak. I can move it easily with my hand an inch side to side and I have it as tight as I can get it. Additionally the first real test of this toilet, it failed, had to break out the plunger first rattle out of the bag, that was one of the reasons I was replacing the old one. The best point about this toilet is I like the height and the sleek style. Installation was not too bad, the holes you have to put your hands into to tighten it down to the floor was a bit small for my hands and the instructions had me installing the toilet before putting on the tank, no way would that had worked for me. First time I filled the tank it just kept running, good thing I had dealt with toilets like this before, because I did not see any trouble shooting instructions. So final results, if you are just looking for a stylish toilet for a lite use area, this might be useful. Due to the loose seat, would not want heavy people sitting on it or take any chance company might uses it for any more than real light use. Keep a plunger handy,

We just received this American Standard Cadet 3 Decor toilet this morning. This is the last item we need for our new bathroom to be built in our basement. We have chosen contemporary items for this bath and the new toilet will fit right in. It is a nice comfort height, it has contemporary styling and I love the skirted straight sides to the floor. Although some might complain that the skirted sides make installation more difficult, the straight sides look nice and it will be easier to keep clean. I had a toilet a bit like this in a bathroom in our previous house and I appreciate the clean straight side style. The finish on the toilet is perfect. I like the slim toilet tank. We also have an American Standard Vanity and an American Standard faucet for this bathroom. I can't wait to see how nicely everything will look when the bath is finished. The style of this toilet makes it look much more expensive than it is, and the features are outstanding: elongated bowl, comfort height, low water use, EverClean surface, included soft-close seat, and more.

This is an excellent elongated toilet at a comfort height and a 1.28 gallon per flush but produces a powerful flush. But what my wife likes is that it is much easier to clean with the smooth sides, hidden bolts, and the EverClean surface that helps to keep the bowl fresher longer (up to 91,000 flushes). Hidden trap way toilets are always a little harder to install (this is my fourth one to install in our home) because of the limited space to line up the bolts to secure the base and the tank. But if you take your time it all works out. I found it easier to attach the water supply line to the tank before installing the tank. Also if you look through the holes where the toilet seat attaches it makes it much easier to see what you are doing when attaching the plastic nuts to secure the base to the flange. But once installed the toilet works great and looks even better. Most important I have a happy wife when it comes time to clean. Everything you need but the water supply line is included with the toilet and it comes with a slow close toilet seat and lid. Overall this is an excellent toilet once it is installed.

This is the second purchase of this toilet. We purchased one about 5 years ago and have been extremely happy with it. It never clogs, flushes quickly, uses very little water and is fairly quiet. I love the streamlined look of the base with no 'nooks & crannies' to collect dust, etc.

If you are the one that gets the job of cleaning the toilet all of the time then you'll understand why you would buy this toilet in the first place. My husband remodeled our bathroom and was going to put the OLD toilet back in to save money! No way! Not at the very end of the job were we going to cut corners and put a crappy dirty toilet back in. So I got to go to Home Depot and pick out the toilet I really wanted because I am the one who CLEANS the toilet! Pro #1: Very quick and clean flush. No worrying about leaving some one in a cold shower when you flush or waking up sleeping guests with a long and loud flush. It has been tested with multi-size poops and yes, they all get flushed out to the septic no problem. Pro #2 Install is fairly straight forward. It would help to have your wife on hand who has skinny arms to reach back into the back, back of the toilet to help tighten screws. Or your kid. Pro #3 No more cleaning dust, hair, and pee stains off the side of the toilet. One clean swipe and you are done! There are no ledges for it to collect on . Pro #3 Lid was easy to install and meant to install from the top. The manufacturers really tried to design a product that was easy for the consumer. Pro# 4 Slow close lid! Big Con..... But (no pun intended but this is a really big BUT) I do not like the lid that came with the toilet. You will see why in the picture! Why make a smooth sided toilet and then make the underside of the seat with all these ridges and contours to have to try to keep clean? On the very area that gets the dirtiest! Defeats the point but is not a dealbreaker for me. Still unhappy about it. But I understand they probably were cutting manufacturing and shipping costs. You may be able to replace the lid with another lid even if installing from the top. Not sure. Buy this toilet, it's awesome.

Some reviewer said it was easy to install it. But for me it was a bit difficult and I believe you need someone to help you to install. The wax does not stick to the bottom of the toilet, so I placed it right on the flange. Placing toilet wasn’t that easy especially if you feel the toilet is heavy like me. You need 16” long hose from the water valve to the toilet tank. That was also hard to install it because of the limited space. Despite of some difficulties you would be very happy to see the result of this stylish toilet. Nice looking, powerful flush and easy to clean. I did not even caulk around the bottom of the toilet since it looks so good.

We recently purchased an American Standard Cadet 3 Decor toilet and paid extra for installation because the hidden trapway toilets are a bit harder to install. See the first picture and the caption. Toilet would run until we "jiggled" the flush lever. The other image shows my fix. I bought a Fluidmaster trip lever because I thought it might pivot out of the way. No way, now the bigger pivot makes the problem worse. So I checked out YouTube. Lots of incomplete information there. I finally found a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIuC4UVXgBQ) "Adjusting height of fill valve when installed in tank," which helped but they didn't even tell you in the video that you need to pull the compression ring completely up from below in order to rotate the fill valve. The new Fluidmaster toilet lever makes it easier to get your big hands under the float because you can snap it off the outside lever and just put it somewhere else in the tank. Another way to fix this is to undo the water fitting under the toilet tank and loosen the fill valve fitting to turn the fill valve. Unfortunately I couldn't remove the water fitting, too tight, and my small Channel Lock wouldn't fit in that tight space. All in all, a bad installation that I needed to fix myself. From the manufacturer? From the installer? You knows, I didn't see the plumber install the fill valve in the tank, so it may have been already installed improperly from the factory.

It took me longer to remove the older toilet then the new one. While I was at homedepot I bought extra supplies, pipe and fittings just Incase I need to move the the water supply. I ended up not having to do that. I bought that as a gage gift for my son because his old one was a lot smaller. Going to be buying 3 more.

It is a very nice toilet except it is hard to lign up the toilet drain hole with the floor drain. The wax ring that came with it didn't really work at all so you have to buy a different type. I had to go buy one of the waxless kind and change it because it was leaking.

The toilet has a nice look to it and seems to work fine. It flushes with enough power and cleans the bowl well with a good swirling action and only uses 1.2 gallons per flush. The toilet seat is not very comfortable though. Installation was also fairly difficult though: If you install this toilet on tile, then chances are when installing you'll need to use two wax rings. The wax ring that comes with it did not seal, the toilet bottom came in direct contact with the tile without compressing the wax ring. Also, assembling the tank to the base is a challenge if the base is already mounted to the floor. Access to the back is difficult to reach when the toilet is close to the wall. The worst part was that the pre-installed flushing mechanism collided with the float that shut off the water. I couldn't get my hands in the bottom of the tank to rotate (very tight) so I had to notch out the plastic flushing arm so it wouldn't stop the float from rising and automatically activating the water shut off. I couldn't find an easy way to convey this problem to the American Standard through their website. See pictures.

                        Response from AmericanStandardBrandsMay 17, 2018
Bob, thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear of the issue when installing the toilet. I would like to address the concerns. The wax ring provided is the most common one used. The flange for toilets should be flush with the finished floor. It sounds as if the flange was recessed too far causing the need for a thicker seal. Also, for the water control valve there is a cleat plastic ring near the bottom that can be pulled up and once that has been done the valve can be rotated to the needed spot. Once you have rotated it simply push the ring back down to lock it into place. If you need any assistance please contact us directly through the American Standard website "Contact Us" located at the bottom of our home page so we can assist you. Sincerely, American Standard Customer Care Tech Team AmericanStandard
