remod, Thanks for the question on the American Standard Cadet 3 toilet. You would not have to use a slow close seat, any standard elongated seat would work, but you cannot remove the slow close feature off of the seat itself. A different seat would have to be purchased. Your American Standard Consumer Connection team.

Love my toilet! I've had it for 6 years and it has performed better than any toilet in our house. The seat has begun to give us problems. One side is loose so that when you sit down, you slide to that side. How do I remove this easily removed seat?

Asked by JoSing July 24, 2020

Answer

JoSing, Thanks for the question on the American Standard seat. This would have a top mount seat, there should be either a silver button in the center of the seat or two on either end. This will allow the seat to be pulled straight off which will expose the mounting kit. It likely only needs tightened down. Your American Standard Consumer Connection Team.

I bought three of these toilets over the course of two years, in two houses that I own. They have been totally problem free in all aspects. I have not experienced any of the glazing issues that you mention with the other water closets. I highly recommend these toilets. Also, they flush very well.

Home Depot carries an amazing selection of toilets, and possibly in the description is where it gets confusing. I noticed that some are labeled as one-piece and others as two-piece and what factors in there can be the overall design, which I believe allows the buyer to choose the style they prefer.

Very happy with this for our new master bath! Love the skirted, easy to clean sides. Slow close is a dream if you haven't had it before. It is a little taller than the last one so getting used to the height. Quite compact as well.

Love the American Standard Cadet series. Low water usage, excellent flushing, and they stay clean longer. I really like the modern styling as well. It's nice that the seat comes with it, and it soft close which is essential. I wish the seat that came with it were easier to clean. There are lots of connections and hinges so it's harder to get in and clean in that area.

The bowl water level is very low, and causing waste to stick to the side. We read the Instruction Manual that came with it and found no help there. After troubleshooting and researching for a long time, I called American Standard customer support and came away with an unconvincing answer. Then a neighbor told us they have the same toilet, and to hold down the handle while flushing. We then realized that if we just "hit and go" as with regular toilets, it doesn't use up the whole tank of water to flush. So now we hold down the handle and the problem is solved, but (1) the manual should have told us about that, (2) having the bowl water level higher would be better in the first place.

Concealed trapway makes cleaning easy. The round-front seat seems a little small but I don't have room for elongated toilet. Flushing is very powerful and quick and not very noisy at all.

This toilet is sleek and looks great. My wife had the one criteria that it needed the closed in sides for ease of cleaning. I wanted a toilet that did one big flush and didn't have to have the lever held down to get everything down. This toilet does both. It has a very powerful, quick, flush that doesn't use much water as the tank is refilled very quickly. Other reviewers noted that it sits away from the wall, and that is correct. We probably could have gone back an inch. I don't mind as it lets me get behind the toilet to clean, as well as get my hand in the back (which is entirely open) to get the toilet seat bolts off if needed.

Sleek, Modern looking toilet.
I didn't install it, so I can't speak to ease of installation. I like the way this toilet looks. I read a lot of reviews about folks complaining about the seat. I personally find no issues with it. I love that it releases with a click so you can clean it! That was always a pet peeve with other toilet seats that you couldn't clean in the parts that needed it the most. This toilet is basically dual flush if you hold the lever down a bit longer. The flush is pretty powerful and it rinses the bowl nicely. I'm happy with it and would re-order this toilet again for the other bathrooms in my house.

My number two toilet
I titled this as my number two toilet because it is the second one I purchased. The first was with the elongated bowl for our master bath and recently the round bowl for our guest bath. The toilet is very heavy compared to the standard toilets we replaced, but the ease of installation was as simple as 123. We had the first toilet installed by a plumber, it took him about 40 minutes, my wife and I installed the current one and it took us about 15 minutes. Honest. Oh, I also put down Ivory Travatine vinyl floor I bought at Home Depot before installing the new toilet.

New commodes
Attractive units. Modern appearance. Narrower width which gives more room in a small bath. These do not hug the wall as close as the old units after installation, due to smaller tank. I don't really care for the sound it makes when it flushes, sounds like a "near flush" on the old toilets, but it is much quieter overall in operation and tank refills much more quickly. These pieces are quite heavy and placement is more difficult with the enclosed trap sides. I would recommend these for new construction or replacement in your home.
