What is the throat diameter of this toilet? I.e is it subject to repeated clogging?

Asked by: Nick
In 4 months, it hasn't clogged, but it does not wash the walls off at all, hardly any water comes from the top, it mostly comes from the lower hole. Hope you like to constantly have to clean the toilet. I wouldn't buy another one!

The full flush (1.6GPF) works consistently without issue, however, the low flush is intermittent at best. Occasionally it will produce a low flush, but more often than not it just swirls the water in the bowl and does not eliminate liquid waste. It requires a full flush, which totally negates the benefit of having a dual flush toilet which is supposed to save water. Contact American Standard customer service. I found they were basically clueless about how to resolve the issue. They agreed to send me a replacement valve which produced the same poor results. Contacted American Standard and they could not explain why both the original valve and the replacement valve were both preset to a setting that was different than what was recommended in the manual. They agreed to send me a new toilet, but it too produced the same poor low flush results. I now have a dual flush "water-saving" toilet that I always have to flush on the full flush setting in order for it to work correctly. So much for trying to save water. Save yourself a headache and buy a different toilet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Skip this Toilet or be warned I recently replaced a 32 year old toilet that was constantly running and cost me $189 in extra water use. When I went to Home Depot, I found the American Standard dual flush toilet to be attracively designed and I liked the idea of the dual flush. I called the plumber and had it installed. Within a day, I began to notice the toilet would continue running every couple of flushes. I called Home Depot and after a lenghty discussion, conviced the manager to let me bring in the top part of the tank for replacement. I got a new tank and installed it. I have had the toilet for six weeks and this one does the same thing. About every 5th flush or so, it continues running. I dont have the time to sit and listen every time I flush the toilet to see if it will shut off this time. It’s so annoying. When I remodel the bathroom in the next few months, I will enjoy tossing this toilet on the concrete and watching it explode. I just flushed nearly two hundred dollars down the drain. I will not be replacing this toilet with any American Standard products. If this is the “American Standard” then that means cheap plastic parts that don’t work on a consistent basis. I am so dissappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cadet 3 Dual Flush; Great! with One Exception Had our two Cadet 3 Dual Flush; Right Height w Siphonic Flush, installed professionally last month. They are working Great...I can Not get these to clog...lol. And I strongly agree with the toilet's self-cleaning ability as advertised--good engineering. Also, I believe the term "pressurized" is used as part of the flushing terminology--There is NO pressurized-sounding noise that you will typically hear and see from those truly pressurized toilets out there. This is an incredibly functional, and powerful flushing toilet that also allows you to save water a bit; and it's Quiet. However seat comfort is lacking...that's why I'm giving it a ding for design/style...as nice as this toilet is, I'm thinking AS could have had made the seat more comfortable...some of the edges are likely too narrow. Also, I adjusted the position of one of the toilet seats and I am truly impressed with the ease and quality of the hardware--again, good engineering here. And no problems with flush mechanisms!

I am a custom home builder and have installed well over 200 American Standard products over my 35 years as a builder. I purchased this toilet for my own home in a powder room because of the low water usage feature. In less than a year the fill valve will not shut off and the toilet bowl is leaking at one of the mounting screws between the bowl and the tank. Why without leaking for almost a year does it start leaking now? I also replaced another low water flush in my main bathroom of a bit of a different American Standard model and it needs to refill the tank at least once an hour because of a bad seal. This tiolet is less than three years old. Are the toilets sold through Home Depot seconds supplied only to them by American Standard? In all the years of my building custom homes I have never had these problems. I would highly recommend staying away from this brand and use Kohler or Toto instead. The money you spend on a more expensive brand will be saved by having a plumber come to repair these Home Depot toilets.

Purchased one of these eight months ago for our master bath at the insistence of my wife who wanted the dual flush feature. I wanted one from the same manufacturer who built the toilet in our guest bath remodeled several months previously. Within three weeks of install flapper valve started slowly leaking. I found after internet search this is a common issue. Contacted AS customer service and they quickly responded by sending a new flapper assembly. Installed the new assembly and within three weeks it's leaking again. If I have to do it again, I'll take the heat from the wife and buy another brand with a standard flapper valve assembly and not the fancy one in the Cadet 3. I'm not thrilled and you might not be either.

I was specifically looking for a dual flush toilet that looks modern and at an affordable price. The Cadet 3 fit the bill. Plus, I purchased an earlier model, the H2Option, that we love. First, the pros of the toilet: it saves water, looks attractive, and even the light flush works great. Now for the reasons why I was disappointed with this toilet: Even though it looks the same as the H2Option, the quality is not the same. First problem: the toilet did not sit flat on the floor. I'm certain that it was the toilet and not the floor because we did not have a problem with the original toilet and the Cadet wobbled even when we placed it down on another part of the bathroom. So I had to use a shim to level the toilet. Second problem: the tank is secured to the bowl with two bolts and need to be on tight. Fasten it too far and you risk cracking the porcelain. I tightened as far as I dared, but the tank still wobbled because of a gap on the back side. Eventually, I shoved two more shims in the back to stop the wobbling. Third problem: the opening on the tank cover for the chrome buttons was not perfectly square, so there is a very visible gap. Customer service said they would send me a replacement, but come on, American Standard! How did that slip pass quality control?

Although an elongated model, this one has a footprint shorter than the standard it replaced. The front of the toilet, therefore, tilts forward ever so slightly, but enough to prevent a good seal. Since I had a special bidet seat, and all connections had been made before I got home, there was no way this toilet was going to be disconnected and returned. As a result, we are having to re-surface the entire water closet. Fortunately, it is a small space; unfortunately, it cannot be matched to the rest of the bathroom flooring. The toilet itself works very well.
