How do i tell if this will work with my current American standard model?

House was built in 2007, I'm assuming the fixtures are original. How do i tell if my current fixtures can be swapped out with these without cutting into my wall? (The look the same, screw holes are in the same spot on trim)
Asked by: Erin
There is a hex head screw under the handle to remove it. American Standard only makes two styles of mixing valves, one with a plastic stem and one with a metal stem. This unit fits the metal stem. They also sell a colony soft trim kit that fits the metal stemmed cartridge with a shorter handle and wider trim ring with a metal overlay showing hot and cold direction. The trim ring on this is chrome plated plastic, and has been replaced with the colony soft trim a few years ago. The mixing valve should be #120 either with or without screw stops to shut off the water if the cartridge leaks.Home Depot usually has spare cartridges in stock, held in by three screws.Replacing the cartridge takes twenty minutes.Use some plumbers grease on the o-rings to keep them in place while seating the cartridge.

This photo shows 4 items (spout, handle, round trim behind handle, and shower head) . Because of the terminology I cant understand what is included. Is the spout, the handle (and the round trim), and the shower head all included? It's obvious that valve is not included. I would appreciate if someone can help me . Thank you in advance.

Just what you see in the picture. The mixing valve(American Standard #120) is sold separately. The valve has multiple trim kits for it. The cover plate for the valve is chrome plated plastic, most of the rest is chrome plated metal. The Colony Soft trim fits the same valve with a shorter handle.

does this valve allow for variable flow...
Asked by: amos
Yes,pull out for flow,to the left for hot,to the right for cold. It also has an anti scale valve if the toilet gets flushed ,to prevent getting burned while bathing.(Required by plumbing code in most states)

What is the diameter of the face plate/escutcheon?

Asked by: Tigerpal
It's a slightly oval shape, not round. It's 6.75" wide by 6" high. Made of plastic.

Customer Reviews

Colony 1-Handle Tub and Shower Faucet Trim Kit in Chrome (Valve Not Included) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 6.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but Prefer the Chrome Finish This is a high quality trim kit that goes with the American Standard flow-adjustable shower valve purchased separately. The faucet handle, water spout, and shower pipe are solid metal and feel solid. The escutcheon and valve sleeve that cover the valve are heavy plastic, except the ring that has the blue/red indicator for cold/hot water is metal. The shower head, also plastic, has a nice spray with a 2.5 gallons/minute rating. The shower head was rated a Best Buy by Consumer Reports, but I still replaced it with my old hand-held WaterPik which I like better. There's a choice of this "Satin Nickel" finish, which I bought thinking it would be easier to keep clean, and a Chrome finish which is less expensive. One of my neighbors bought the Chrome finish trim kit and both of us like hers better. The "Satin" finish seems to have a slight yellowish tint to it. Maybe it's the way the finish reflects my ceiling light. You can see this in the photo comparing the new faucet and water spout with the old chrome tub overflow and drain handle. Also, closeup, I think the "Satin" looks more like a brushed chrome rather than a true satin. Also, in both finishes, the two screws that hold the escutcheon in place are visible. It would look nicer if they were somehow hidden. Installation was relatively easy. There are the two long screws that hold the escutcheon in place. They screw into the faucet valve inside the wall. The faucet handle is attached to the valve with a small hex screw underneath. There was a hex key included in the box for this screw. The water spout is attached to the water pipe that comes out of the wall with another, larger, hex key on the bottom. Thankfully, I had a set of hex keys in my tool box to tighten this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product This is a great product at a great price. Had originally purchased shower head and handle in store. I found this item in an email a couple days later. Cheaper by about $25 and had all the items needed to replace all fixtures. It is made of great quality and compliments any shower. I highly recommend this item!!
