Questions & Answers

Is the flush quiet?

Asked by: PJ
Yes, very. I had a cheap, low volume toilet that would easily wake up adjoining rooms. Not this one though.

What installation parts do I need to purchase?

Asked by: Dennie
You need a wax ring. You may need closet bolts if the old ones need replacing. You should get a new flexible water supply hose - get the length that will go from your water supply point to about 17" off the floor. If not sure about the length to get, get a couple and return the ones you don't need. I would buy new bolts too, and decide if you need them when you see the condition of the old ones. If you don't already have an elongated seat you will need to buy a seat too.

Does this include a toilet seat? If so, is it a gentle close? I will have a contractor put this in--what else needs to be bought for installation?

Asked by: christa
No seat or wax ring included.

Customer Reviews

H2Option 2-piece Dual Flush 1.6/1.0 GPF Chair Height Elongated Toilet in Bone is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 198.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice toilet I read the reviews and bought one for my master bath remodel. I replaced the seat while I was installing with a removeable soft close wood seat due to the reviews I read. We love the height, the look, easy to clean and the water savings. I havent seen any flush problems. We also got a rebate from our local water district. Am remodeling the guest bath and just got one for there also. I would recommend this toilet, but would tell you to buy and install a new seat. It is a 5 star toilet with the new softclose seat I installed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Best toilet in the world - PERIOD. Wanna save water and not worry about backing up a toilet? This is the one!! Dual flush, one for liquid (1 gallon flush) and one for solids (1.6 gallon flush). I weigh 240 lbs and I can't clog it. Nuff said

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT! Live in rural area using well/septic system. Bought this toilet for obvious reasons & it has been one of the best buys EVER! LOVE the height (getting older so better for me!) & the dual flush/ water saving feature since I do have a well which can be worrisome, especially with the droughts we've had. Thank you American Standard - very very pleased with the 2 toilets we installed by ourselves!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Water Saver We love the water-saver feature of this double flush toilet. The higher height to the seat makes it comfortable especially for older guests. One warning, use a thicker than normal wax-ring when installing this toilet if you have a hardwood or thick ceramic floor. The normal thickness wax-ring will not make a tight seal and you will get water seeping from the bottom of the toilet. The factory setting for the flush mechanism was fine and did not require any adjusting - at least not on the one that we got.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact quiet and clean looking. Even the bigger flush option of this toilet are pretty quiet, especially compared to the "assisted flush" clunker we replaced. It was simple for our contractor to install and the whole process (including getting the old toilet out) only took an hour. The tank is so petite I can actually clean all around the toilet without being a contortionist. Add a slow-close all-plastic seat and this whole thing is very easy to clean and looks great in an updated modern bath.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Water conservation choice in an excellent product This dual flush toilet allows low water usage or higher water usage. Since legislation will soon allow sale of only lower water flushing soon, I wanted to get a product that allows both. Flush action is quick and powerful. Higher bowl is nice for older family members w/weaker thighs

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice replacement I got this toilet to replace an older 1.6 GPF unit since I'm on a septic system and am trying to reduce the amount of waste water. It arrived very well packaged - it was double boxed and padded. It's attractive and functional. I noticed that the tank refill is quieter than my old unit. From the floor to the top of the bowl is 16.75". Despite the high-tech dual-flush mechanism, the toilet itself seems pretty basic. No seat or wax ring were included. The tool supplied to tighten the tank nuts was a piece of metal tubing with a hex shape in one end with a hole for a screwdriver in the other end. I used two shims to level the bowl. I can't vouch for whether the floor is really level, but the unit I took out didn't have any shims. The flush button has to be held down for a couple of seconds to get a complete flush. This might be an advantage since I have cats that will be walking over the tank top. There is a full page of adjustment instructions in the installation guide, including how to adjust the flush buttons and how to adjust the flush valve. I couldn't make sense of the flush valve adjustment instructions, but it worked OK without any additional adjustments. I was concerned about access to the flush valve adjustments but it turns you can just twist the flush valve and pull it out for adjustment or replacement.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great! Good deal on this toilet in store. Both the 1.0gpf & 1.6gpf work well. If you are stuck with a contractor grade 1.28gpf that keeps clogging - this is a good one to get considering price/performance. There are some that are less $, but you'll probably be replacing parts in a year or two (gaskets, fill valves, etc). A few install notes: 1) Get a standard wax ring (about $1.50) with no flange if you have trouble getting the toilet to seat on the floor properly. The wax ring that came with ours didn't work with our 4" line 2) Be really careful with the plastic nuts that hold the toilet to the floor. They are designed to break if over-tightened, but they broke too soon. (Just get metal bolts/nuts and a cap set and be careful - $3) 3) Once you install - it is a good idea to use some polyseamseal (a type of adhesive caulk) around the base (not mentioned in instructions). This keeps water from getting underneath the toilet, and helps bond the toilet to the floor. It comes up easily if you need to remove the toilet later. 4) Kit doesn't come with shims (go ahead and buy them - $1.50) in case you need them. 5) If you push the button and the toilet doesn't completely flush (meaning you have to hold the button in to get it to flush - turn the tank lid over and back out the contact screws that contact the flush valve in the tank. I backed mine out nearly 3/4" and the toilet is perfect! No more needing to hold the button down till the flush cycle completes. Only reason I give this a 4 star - the first unit we bought had a manufacturing defect on the bottom plate where the glaze was not flush with the bottom. This made the toilet not seat properly. We took it back and exchanged it (no problems at all there). The 2nd one was perfect. All in all - install was easy (about an hour to remove the old and install the new). All in for about $200 for a MUCH better quality toilet that does what it was designed to do - namely FLUSH!
