AnswerDear Charles, Actually both statements in the diagram are correct. The overall depth of the tub is 13 1/4", but by the time the water reaches a depth of 11 1/2", it is at the height of the over flow drain opening. This means that the water will start going down the over flow drain. The tub provides a person with the ability to step into the tub more easily and still take a bath.

The shipment took over a month, even when shipped to the store, and it is not a deeper tub, as claimed on the Home Depot description of details. Otherwise, it's a nice tub. It's a simple and practical design. The bottom is slip-resistant and it's a good size.

The quality of the tub seems good, but the online description of the tub was NOT accurate. According to the description this is a soaker tub with a deeper than average soaking depth. However, once we ordered the tub, got it home and finally got ready to install it I was highly surprised and disappointed to find that the distance from to the overflow measured a measly 10 1/2 inches. Soaking tub? For who a toddler? They have one in-stock at The Home Depot that is deeper and $100 less than I paid for this tub. Not a happy camper, but kept it because nearly a month passed from when the tub arrived to when it was installed and didn't feel like we could take it back then.

I give the American Standard a poor rating since the packaging was not padded for a delivery. When the delivery arrived, it enamel was cracked along the whole top ledge. I placed on order of Dec 2nd and got delivery of Dec 26th, which seemed quite long for a bath tub which is of standard size.
The depth and color of the bath was what I was looking for in a tub, however, I decided to go with another brand after the two delivery experiences not being up to par.
Home Depot exchanged the product with ease, which was the only positive I have to say about this specific order.

I love this tub! The sides are easy to...
I love this tub! The sides are easy to step over for an older person to get in and out of the tub. In a one-bathroom house, that's important. The surface of the bottom is nice enough to sit on, while giving good traction. It's a nice, bright white, so you can tell when it's clean, unlike the off-white finishes. It holds enough water to bathe in, but it's not as deep as some others. If you like a good soak, you might be disappointed. I've only had it a couple of weeks, but I expect with proper care and cleaning, I will still love it twenty years from now.
