Questions & Answers

I have a R120 valve, single handle valve in chrome trim. I want to change the trim to brushed brass, but do not have model number. How do I find a trim kit. Jeff Auman

Asked by: lava guy
We offer several different trims that would fit the R120 rough in valve however we no longer manufacture or stock a brass finish. http://archive.americanstandard-us.com/products/searchResults.aspx?pc=&p=1&so=productDate&k=r120&di=0&r=25

does this need pressure from hot and cold in order to work. we hooked up a new one but only had the cold water hooked up and the faucet would not work

Asked by: kirker
Yes, there is a pressure balancing unit (mixing valve) that needs to have both hot and cold on in order to mix and let the water out.

My house was built in 1972 using American Standard. The valves all work great, so I don't want to replace those. This looks like the same rough valve. Should any of the trim kits mentioned above work on my 1972 rough valves?

Asked by: Dani712
In order for us to better assist you, we will need you to contact customer service at 1-800-442-1902 with a photo of your rough in valve as if it was originally installed in 1972 then it would not be one of our current valves and more then likely has the old 10&2 or 9&3 screw placements which are not compatible with our current trim which has screw placements of 0&5.

Customer Reviews

Pressure Balanced Rough Valve Body with 1/2 Pex Inlets and Direct Sweat Outlets is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works almost too well Okay...we built our home in 2010. It's wonderful and we have all American Standard faucets, shower, toilet etc. The real complaint is that our downstairs shower valve (anti-scald) keeps "popping". Meaning the water is coming out hot and then it "pops" not allowing you to continue to turn the water to hot. It's like there is a brick wall in the handle. The first time it did it (two winters ago), we replaced the valve - no big deal and we went on with life. The next year, it "popped" again and we replaced it. Again, not a big deal thinking it's keeping us safe. However, it has now done it for a third time and third year in a row. Now we have to replace it again. It's getting expensive. The upstairs shower has the exact same head/hardware/valves and we've never had a problem. So although the anti-scald thing is great, for some reason it overdoes it's job on our downstairs shower. Yes, I still recommend it for the safety feature but this is the last time I'm replacing it. It does it again and I'll get something completely different.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ease of use This is the only valve that gives you volume control and temperature control in a single lever valve. It is unbeatable for the price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT AS DESCRIBED! If I could give this zero starts I would. We ordered this valve based on the 1/2" measurements and when our plumber went to install it he found that the cold and hot water inlets were not 1/2" as stated in the product info and in the paperwork that comes with the valve but 3/8" . When I called American Standard they agreed that all inlets should be 1/2" and to just return it and get a new one. Not only do we not have a a Home Depot in our town to easily return things (we ordered online) but the inlets on the valve are machined on. So it wasn't like someone accidentally put on the wrong size. So we went ahead and ordered a new one. Well, no big surprise, the second one was also incorrect. After contacting the manufacturer again and letting them know that the valve is defective and getting absolutely no resolution, we just went ahead and ordered a regular valve and had our plumber fit it to the Pex. VERY FRUSTRATING!! If I didn't like the fixture that this valve goes with so much I would have returned everything and gone with a whole different company.
