To keep from damaging the porcelain is important to use low or non abrasive cleaners. I just asked the wife and she cleans it with a multipurpose spray (non abrasive) cleaner and it works fine. The problem with abrasive cleaners is that eventually the surface of the porcelain will lose its luster and become more and more difficult to clean.

You say the americast tub is 16ga seems thin to me ,why not 14ga less flex longer lasting. been working metal for 50 years. Are the tubs press mold if so then some areas of the tub will be thinner is this correct. How thick is the finish on tub.

The tub is pressed into shape then the enamel is baked on. Once this process is complete a heavy polyester backing is injected on the back side of the tub insulating it and adding strength.

The 17" version is considered "above floor rough in" which means the bottom of the tub is 3.5 inches off the subfloor.

The height difference is because the insulation underneath is thicker. The soaking depth is the same so the number of gallons it holds will also be the same.

Tub’s finish is fragile
It chipped within the first month after the installation when I tipped the shower rod and hit the tub. The finish in the tub was so thin I had to pick it up with a piece of tape.

Much better than an Acrylic bathtub. Steel makes it more stable and durable.

Very pleased with this tub
We ordered this American Standard tub on line for our guest bathroom renovation. We picked it up at our local HD store..no problems picking it up and it was delivered to the store a few days earlier than expected. The tub is spacious, with plenty of ledge space. One thing to keep in mind is it's 17 inch high which is a bit higher than most standard tubs. It's sturdy and looks great in our new bathroom!

Worry free tub
Product had the features of durability, sound proof, easy installation and lightweight. The tub came highly recommended by the installer. We had many choices but chose to go with a tub that has a reputation for endurance. Latest technology used to build tub.

The packaging was disastrous. The foam flakes off the metal. The angle braces made of the foam are weak. You worry you're going to break the thing when you move it. The surface of the tub is not smooth. Seems dimpled or hammered.

Happy with our purchase
We are very satisfied with our new tub. It looks great in our bathroom. American Standard makes quality merchandise. My husband and a plumber installed our tub. The only comment I heard them discuss was building a support frame along the back wall. This may not have been anything to do with the tub itself. It may have been due to our existing walls which we found upon demolition were not level.
