Do you have to use roofing nails to attach the flange to wood studs? Can you use screws and fender washers instead, or is that only for steel stud installations? If so, why?

Asked by jwalk October 2, 2020
1
Answer

jwalk, Good Morning! This is what we recommend. To secure the tub to wood studs, use sheet rock screws with washers immediately above the flange of the tub. To secure the tub to steel studs, use drywall screws and flat washers. Sincerely, your American Standard Consumer Connection Team

My alcove is 63 5/8 inches so I need to fill it in.  I want to make a ledge at the back of the tub which would be somewhat level with the tub.  Could I cut off the vertical part of the flange?

Asked by Gigi58 August 4, 2020

Answer

Gigi, Thanks for the question on the American Standard tub. You cannot remove the tiling flange on tubs, it is an integral part of the tub and could not be removed. Your American Standard Consumer Connection Team.

Soon as this one was installed noticed a indention right in the very front in the middle! Refuse to take tub out since I already paid to have it installed. Having to spend more money to have the slate being used on the wall to extend across the front of tub to cover dent. The 1st one I got had the enamel chipped off the corner. Both tubs were not in store purchases. The store nearest me did not have this tub. Other than that I really like the tub.

Used this to replace a one piece fiberglass unit in a rental bathroom. The new tub seems to be very durable, even when I accidently dropped a drill, and a hammer into it. Not a single scratch. Installation was easy and straight forward. There is included directions on how to install, just follow them and it will work out perfectly. The drain and overflow holes matched up perfectly to the old tub. Finished the surround with backer board and affordable tile, and the end result looked too good for a rental house!

I purchased this item as part of a bathroom renovation. The concept of having an enamel tub that looks like porcelain without the weight of a cast iron tub was intriguing. However, the quality of this item is poor at best. When I opened the box, the tub already had chips in the enamel along several of the outside edges. Even though this would have likely been covered up by the tile work we were going to put around the tub, I had reservations. If the tub is chipping while it's brand new, what might it look like after some use. I wasn't willing to run that risk, so the tub will be going back to Home Depot. American Standard really needs to step up their game and improve their product quality. Their past reputation and brand name is not going to carry them much longer versus their competition if they continue on this path. I'm going to purchase an acrylic tub instead from another company.

Very Good tub for small spaces
Customer review from americanstandard-us.com logo
I purchased this tub one year ago for a bathroom update. It fit the (small) space perfectly and went in with little trouble. I've had no problem with "chipping" the finish. My only comment is that I think the "grit" on the tub floor should be grittier. It's not slick, but it's not much of a tread. Also, water could drain faster, but that's not a problem. Perfect tub for low threshold and small- to medium-sized people. I didn't purchase it because of the cost, but low cost is a real bonus.
