Does the screen go on top or on bottom?
Asked by: Squirt
The only way I could get the vinyl gutter guards to snap in the gutter and hold was to install with the screen down under larger openings. Maybe I bought seconds don’t know. But looks great.

We reinstalled these into new gutters from old gutters & they have popped up the shingles quite a bit. Anyone else?

Asked by: Kelly
I did rip the guard with my saw so there wasn't any pressure/binding against the shingles. I left 1 inch overlap from the shingles.

I live in the northeast with a good amount of snow. Should these guards be removed prior to winter months?

So that the snow doesn't build up on top of the guards and cause ice dams. Or are they ok the leave on all year long? Thanks.
Asked by: MCT16
No You get ice dams and ice may tear off your gutter with your guards. Guard will help reduce possible damage and only help not hurt. If ice rips off your gutter it will rip off the guard too. Guard will only reduce the ice damage.

3 ft. White Snap-In Filter Gutter Guard is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 545.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product We have some large Oak trees hanging over our roof and we used to have gutter overflow practically every time we had strong rain for 5 minutes or so. We'd clean the gutter after the rain, but by the time next rain comes, the gutter is sprinkled with leaves and other debris, ready to overflow. I was skeptical in the beginning about this product and installed 3 by 3 feet comparing with the other rounded aluminum mesh product, but in the end I dropped the aluminum mesh and covered all my gutters with this product end to end. With this product the gutter is blocked from debris nearly perfectly and I have peace of mind when it rains now. The only problem I have had is that debris piled up too much on the guard where water pours from one gutter to another and rainwater went over when the rain was really strong. But this is a minor problem compared to the benefit you get. In the beginning I was confused, but the side with fine net should be installed facing upwards.

The guards were fairly easy to install, and cutting them to fit where the gutter wasn't exactly a 3 foot lenght was easy enough. It appears that they keep out many of the oak leaves but some pine needles get stuck in the screen filters. I rated these a 2 because they did filter out the oak leaves and because they were relatively inexpensive. I haven't cleaned the gutters yet so I'm really not sure how many pine needles got through. The most glaring problem, is as many others commented on, these seem to screen out the water, and a lot of the water flows out over the edge of the gutter. The overflow erodes the soil below the gutter. I live in northern California, and have extremely hot summers, I'll find out how well these perform in the heat. I'll be replacing them soon I'm sure. But I won't use these again!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keeps gutters clean I noticed on some other web sites for the same product several bad reviews while at the same time good reviews. There are a lot of variables involved which could lead to good or bad review. No one seems to want to include shingle overhang at the drip edge. Many roofers like to hang the shingles way over (2 inches) and some keep the shingle even with the drip edge. The farther the shingle hangs over the less holes for the water to go into the gutter and maybe harder to install because of the downward curve of the shingles if they hang over a lot. I put these on my house in steps, to see if they could take a big down pour..with out water going over--- so far they do. The box lots and the singles do not really tell you how to install, except for keep screen on top. If you visit the web site of the manufacture, you will find good detailed instructions-- most important is the overlap of the gutter guards. My house house 4 / 12 pitch - another variable for run off of water. These guards are plastic.. a little costly for what they are- BUT they do seem to do the job.... Beware of all the variables mentioned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install, works great! I bought these last year to see if they would help me avoid the dreaded gutter clean-up since I'm afraid of heights and need to get help. My brother installed them quickly and said they were really easy (probably did about 65 feet in under an hour, and he was cleaning the gutters as he went). They slide under the shingle and clip right into place. We decided to see how they weathered the seasons before finishing the front of the house. There was literally nothing in the gutters when he checked them this fall after a lot of leaves came down (plus I get those "helicopters" from the oak trees), so I went ahead and bought the rest that I needed to finish the job. Completed my ranch for a total cost of less than $75. They didn't buckle under last year's blizzard and other storms, so I think they'll last a long time. Really happy with the product and would recommend (and have) to others.

Slipped them over my gutters 5 years ago and haven't had to replace any. Didn't need any special cutting to install; just lined them up end-to-end. Corner turns took a little effort and a diagonal cut. Does catch wet pine needles and have to go up on ladder twice a year to brush them off; but rain water still gets through the nylon netting and into the gutters. Best part is that downspouts NEVER get clogged, so water always keeps moving. Dry needles in warm weather blow off on their own or you can use leaf blower. They have survived heat, cold, and some snow with no problem. (I'm a lady senior citizen.)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not real good for 6 inch gutters I installed these in my 6 inch gutters and they are not long enough to stay under the shingles and snap onto the gutter. They sort of sit in there bowed into gutter. They do catch debris. However the problem is the debris piles up on top and doesn’t allow water through and it oveflows the gutter. So I find my self on a ladder cleaning them anyway. Espescially bad with the maple tree helicopter seeds. So these have their own maintenance to look after. After doing more research I don’t believe there’s a perfect solution short of spending thousands of dollars on the gutter helmut. I’m switching to the gutter brush.

They have been in place for 2 weeks now and holding strong through a couple of deluges already. This product is way cheaper but very good quality, compared to all the other products on the market. It snaps into place and is very secure. i am confident it will stay in place for many years to come. I may secure some of the end pieces to the gutter with a small screw as recommended in high wind areas.

The little holes fill with leaves and small particles. The screen grows mold and mildew which blocks the screens. In a hard Texas rain the water does not use it gutters, it just flows off the roof over the screens and on the ground. I have removed this product from my gutters, and placed it in the trash. Be careful with this product, it it gets blocked the water flows on to the roof boards.
