I asked the question few days ago and since then I already answered it ("YES") myself and my window well has been installed successfully. But now I get and email from Home Depot: "This is made of steel i do not think you will be able to make this bend open." I am glads the advise came late, days late. However, before buying this 42" wide window well, I had no trouble (I am 77 years old) expanding/streching the opening some 4 inches and so I bought it on the spot.
Why not shop for shorter types? I did find many in the Internet before I bought the 48 in X 36 in x 42 in from Home Depot. During replacement, we actually dug up further down than my old well and buried it almost a foot lower. I am very satisfied with the results. Yes, it can be cut with heavy duty tools ( but I WOULD NOT CUT IT) and NOT with home tools if it can be secured properly, It can be cut but it is not worth the risk to injury during and after (sharp edges). The width of my window was 52 in and was able to open it and bolt it to the 52 in window frame nicely.
Hi Tommy, Proper drainage and air flow are the two most critical aspects to prolonging the life of galvanized steel. Make sure any cover allows air movement which applies to your below grade windows as well.
Yes, there is a cover available for this product.
We do not offer a cover for this particular product. We do have covers for our plastic modular egress window well system though.
