(What's this)
The Ames 8 inch Poly Shrub Rake performs well and sells for a great price. I initially thought the poly rake would end up broken very quickly. I was very wrong. It has turned out to be the perfect rake for the flower beds. It is light weight, easy to maneuver between plants and has yet to become heavily clogged. It moves around loose dirt nicely and has removed loosed weeds and leaves with ease. The padded anti slip material at the top of the handle is a welcome feature. My only complaint is the label was attached to the times with a strong adhesive. It was impossible to remove the label in one piece and it left behind sticky residue which attracted dirt and debris to stick to the rake.

(What's this)
The extra long handle on this small headed rake, is just phenomenal! It's even more handy for people like me that are super short! At five foot ZERO, I definitely fall into the short stature community! This can often lead to me being a bit lacking in arm length with regular garden tools to adequately reach with regular tools. Now I KNOW that this rake wasn't made specifically FOR shorter folks, I'm just pointing out that in MY case it was EXTRA handy! Now, onto the fantastic capability of the smaller rake head that gets into all sorts of areas where a regular rake simply cannot --- ESPECIALLY when the fall/autumn leaves start landing in every possible square inch of lawn space! Leaves are EVERYWHERE! This smaller headed rake came particularly handy when our Indian Hawthorn shrubs were stuffed with both Oak leaves AND Magnolia leaves - talk about a mess! Magnolia leaves are virtually indestructible because of their thickness and heavy weight. Because of their ability to with stand many seasons without breaking down, they absolutely MUST come out from underneath the shrubs or else the roots can't be aired out, and moisture can cause some moldy issues on both the dead leaves underneath the shrubs, but also collects and grows on the bottom levels of the Hawthorns. This can lead to premature thinning out of the (normally) evergreen leaves. This year was the very first year that I didn't have to struggle in getting the leaves out. Just a few simple attempts with the small rake head - and LONG handle, and it was a breeze to clean up. The rake is absolutely the perfect size for this task. To be honest, for as long as I have been gardening , I cannot believe that I've never seen one of these rakes, mush less never heard of one! I would have invested in this rake YEARS ago had I known. If you have ANY low lying shrubs and areas in your yard and garden, this is definitely one item that I wholeheartedly suggest in picking up - it was a back and knee saver for the first time it was brought out!

(What's this)
As intended, the rake fits into tight spaces between plants, under bushes, and beneath decks. It is light weight to reduce fatigue and somewhat limits removing heavier materials like mulch that you may prefer to leave in place. Of course this rake should supplement larger leaf and metal rakes as it would not do well as a primary tool due to its size and construction. The plastic tines are rather flexible so I'll see how many seasons these will last compared with thin metal versions. Overall though the design of the narrow head plus long handle should reduce many hours of bending over and crawling around the yard.

(What's this)
I really wasn't looking foward to doing this raking job - behind the shrubs, where all the cobwebs and spiders are ..but it really needed it, it's such an obvious spot to see whenever you use the front door! It looked so neglected. But it had to be done, and I made quite a dent in the leaf litter and cobwebs in no time! This rake is narrow and long, just what this space needed, without me climbing into all that. It's very sturdy and well made, so it should be in the arsenal of yard equipment for a long long time!
