Just received this hose box via home delivery (h/t Providence, RI store for a quick AM drop-off). First the positive:
1. It easily holds my 100ft standard hose and "pocket" hose.
2. It may not look as attractive as some other hose boxes, but its actually rather nice. Its understated and blends in well with its surroundings. Neither flashy nor tacky.
3. No leaks! It includes a very nice quality connector hose and both the connector on the side and reel are metal.
4. The reel itself works well. Its easy to roll-up the hose and easy to unroll it. You'll need to have the hose sitting in front of the box to avoid getting it tangled or caught on something but assuming there are no obstructions (or weird angles) reeling in the hose is quite easy. The front-right leg of the hose reel extends a bit for you to place your foot on it and reel in the hose.
5. The top opens up allowing easy access.
So, overall, I'm happy with this hose reel box from Ames and hope it lasts many years. Read - "hope" as its one downside:
1. The plastic/poly resin used in construction is rather flimsy. I worry about this hose box if something falls on it or hits it. It seems too thin and is wobbly.
2. So long as you keep it next to a home or shed it should be fine. But I might avoid this around livestock (e.g. in a stable w/horses) or, worse, rambunctious kids or adults. The top is flat and *looks* like a seat but I doubt it can hold much weight. It can probably hold a water bucket or certainly drinks while washing your car, but not much more.
3. Its not dangerously unstable but a little kid might want to stand or sit on it which can only end it tears.
Long/short - it works well and looks fine. Its a bit more fragile than I'd prefer. I'd bring this inside a shed or garage for the winter.
