Being a first time install with this type of door, and by myself, it was somewhat of a challenge, I think the next one could be done in 45 minutes, but I wanted to make sure it was correct. I did manage to get it that way, but it took longer, but I'm retired, 81 yrs old, and had the time. It really is a nice door, works well, looks really nice, made the house look a lot better. The main issue was getting the latch side where it should be, maybe a plastic strap installed at the bottom, would hold the sides the right distance apart, would be better than the 2 pc on that side of the frame, just a thought, but that was the problem I had. Other than that, a really nice door, I had the rounded etching added, and that really made it pop, I didn't want a screen, in fact I'm taking out all my screens, with AC, what good are they? Thanks HD and Ralph for your help. I kept the old 3 window door, and now you can see it. Bob

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality Door, Helps Insulate Very Well, Takes more like 90-120 Minutes to Install w/ 2 People My boyfriend and our other friend installed this door in an afternoon. You should know that 45 minute installation time is never a 45 minute installation time. We had all the necessary tools (electric drill, bits, level, hand screw driver) which would make things slower if you don't have access to these. I bought the door because my wooden back door was retaining moisture and I could tell that we were wasting electricity by losing hot air out of the cracks between the door and the frame. The very first minute we installed this storm door, we could tell the difference. For me, it was worth the larger price tag because : 1. It's high quality. The door is solid, not flimsy, it has two automatic closures, and it insulates very well. 2. While it didn't take 45 minutes, the installation was significantly quicker than it would have been if it had come less-assembled. 3. It's a very nice looking door. It does not detract from the appearance of our home at all. If anything, it improves on it.

Both handles have to be inserted at the same position and the rotated to final position together, which varies from their written instructions and it's the only way it's going to work.Installation went smoothly (until door handle/lock)...we did watch a video of installation first however. The install video varies slightly from the printed instructions, so do consult both. Also make sure you mount door from the bottom up to avoid any possible gap at the bottom. The bottom weather strip is adjustable ever-so-slightly. The top extended rain cap covers a gap at the top unless your opening is out of measurement range. In this case a small piece of wood trim might be needed at the top, painted or stained as needed. It's been installed about a month now and looks & performs great!

Today I was using my weed eater and a little stone hit the glass and it completely shattered in 10000 pieces. I went to try put in the screen insert but it was literally impossible. My wife and me followed instructions and even watched a YouTube video... the strips just won’t snap in place. This is a horrible design! I ended up bending the screen insert. Very frustrated, I drove to Home Depot; once there, they told me they don’t have a replacement glass or screen and that I will need to order it directly from Andersen. I went online to check for the glass insert and it ends up being over $118, ready to ship in 14 days and 7 days as shipment time. What am I suppose to do without a door for 21 days? I paid $199 plus tax for this door... the replacement price is not worth it. No, I would not recommend this door not even to my enemy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Looks like it's always been there" This is a very fine door and really is very easy to install. It looks great, has a well designed handle and lock, and closes properly every time. After repeatedly reading and rereading the instructions, it took about 90 minutes to complete the installation. My neighbor--who knows I'm not an all-pro handiman-- viewed the finished door and said, "Wow, it looks like it's always been there." Although the instructions repeatedly emphasize not to try to install the door if the "mount" area is too narrow, use your own judgment on that. Our door had a mount area much narrower than recommended, but it went in just fine, and is very secure. I wasted money on the "narrow mount kit" that turned out not to fit, even though they should have known that I had an 84 inch, not 81 inch door. The only weak part of the door design is the system holding in the detachable screen or glass. It works, but takes some finesse when removing and installing each piece. You have to be careful not to bend the detachable strips the wrong way, or you can ruin them.

I just finished installing my new storm door and was disappointed with the instructions and the locking mechanism. This is not a cheap door however it does not have a separate latch for the door to lock into . Instead the door latches onto the door rail frame and if the door frame is not perfectly installed the door can just be pulled open. So now I have to remove all of the door frame screws and shim the latching side closer to the door by an 1/8" so that the latch will catch. When I called customer service they were kind enough to tell me that the latch was not catching due to a faulty installation. Thanks but maybe they should tell you first that the locking mechanism is totally dependent on the door being installed precisely with no room for error or the door will not latch. Considering the price they should have figured out how to include the .99 striker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice door - seems more solid that most I looked at... Was trying to decide between the full-view and store away screen and went with this door after the store associate told me he had this door in his home for the past 10 years and he's liked it. Glad I went with the "easy install" door - installing the handle was a piece of cake! Note the door doesn't come with the handle - you have to purchase at the tune of $48 bucks in-store. If everything goes smoothly and the door fits exactly in the opening and maybe you've done this 3-4 times before - it could take 45 minutes. However with a little troubleshooting your door frame (if you removed an old door and had to clean up the area), reading instructions, separating parts, then finally installing - caulking... It took me 3 hours. Its certainly not hard to install - but if you're taking your time - no 45 minutes. I'm happy with it, I would buy it again. My only complaint is the screen feels cheap. I haven't installed it yet, but I gather probably all screens are the same quality these days...
