can this be made to be a double door

Yes it can but you need to call Anderson and order an astragal. My door frame width was 64 inches and had to order one 32 in door and one 34. The astragal adds 2 inches to the door and comes with upper and lower stops to make one door fixed and is added to bottom and top of the astragal. My wood doors had one fixed so I picked that side of storm door to be fixed, although both front door and storm door that are fixed can be opened. I believe the astragal was $135 and was shipped to my house from Anderson. I comes with very good instructions but I had to read them 3 or 4 times to make sure I understood them. End result is very good. Astragal comes with everything you need including 2 drill bits.. I did use a hack saw to cut the astragal to size.. installation is not for the novice. Done right and you will get a great seal . I also replace my sill and threshold.

We are sorry for the inconvenience. When brand new or during cold weather, retainer strips may be stiff. Additional pressure may need to be applied. Is it cold outside? (32° Fahrenheit or below) If so, allowing the retainer strips to warm up to room temperature may allow the retainers to be more pliable and easier to install/remove. One suggestion is to warm the retainer using a hair dryer (being careful not to be too hot to melt them). Another is to soak them in warm water prior to installing or reinstalling them. By warming the retainer it may make them more flexible and easier to install. - Charmaine

Thank you for posting your question. The storm door that has 84 inch height will not fit on a 83.50 inch opening. The opening should be 84 7/8 inch to accommodate the mounting frames such as latch rail and hinge rail. - Irene

Noisy closure
The Anderson door was put in last April 2020 and the self closing mechanism is noisy. Today the top closure bracket just snapped in half and while the bottom bracket and closure arm work the door can no longer be propped open until I fix this.

First time installing a storm door myself. Not all models have a working deadbolt. Wish this one did. Other than that, it's a nice door and have one more to install.

Dissatisfied
The door was moderately easy to install although it did take me longer than the advertised 45 minutes. I was appreciating the overall quality of the door while installing the final rain trim when, regrettably, I noticed a large bend defect in the frame that does not allow me to completely seal the nail rail. It’s really disappointing that I did not notice this until after I had the door installed, but It’s really an eyesore and I wish this would have been noticed in the factory.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We are sorry to hear about the issue on the door, but we somehow glad to learn that the door was moderately easy to install. The advertised timeframe of 45-Minute Easy Install is tested and is based on time-study conducted from different people and skill set. Some outside factors can affect the success of the installation. We want to assist you with your concern. Please contact the Andersen Storm Door Solution Center at 855-337-8822 for assistance about your door. Please be ready with the serial number upon your call. - Noel. AWEMCOMarketing
Replacing this Door after 2 years!

We had this Full View Interchangeable door installed by Home Depot May 2018. The installer had the job done in about 20 minutes and it worked and looked beautiful. The problems began in the fall when we had to change the screen out for the glass. The retainer strips that held the screen in place were very difficult to remove and even using all the tips in the info from Andersen, including heating the strips, we broke several of them. We even went back to Home Depot and the salesperson couldn't believe how difficult they were to remove. We got the glass in and found that the sun coming through the glass on our south facing door was heating up the steel door and melting our wreath! We had to leave the interior door open to release the heat most sunny afternoons, even in subzero temps. When removing the glass, 1 corner bracket broke and another was noticed to be defective and made the glass unstable. After several calls, even to an 800 number with a person who's English was difficult to understand with roosters crowing in the background, Andersen would not help us, saying glass is only warrantied for 90 days. We will replace this door with self storing low E glass, but not an Andersen product. We bought this door because of Andersen's good reputation and are very disappointed in their customer service.

The door itself was as expected for a high end storm door. So was the handle and lock hardware. Installation of the door was relatively easy, up until the installation of the door closer cylinders. After the door closers were installed the door would only open to about 45 deg, at which point the door closers bottomed out. I contacted Andersen about the problem and they sent me a new set of door closers, same as the first set and still the same problem. See the photo of the door closed and with one end of the closer pinned. The door closer mounting bracket on the door is about 2.5 inches away from the pin hole on the closer. When the closer is pinned on both ends the closer is already extended 2.5 inches with the door closed. So when the door is opened the travel is restricted and will not allow the door to open any where near 90 degrees, as it should. When paying this much for a door I should not have to do a custom remount of the door closer bracket to get the door to operate as it should.

Warning! "Oil-Rubbed Bronze" Hardware is Black

If you're hoping for a nice burnished coppery or brass color to shine though, you're going to be disappointed. From any angle under any lighting, it just looks black. Quick Install Note: Once you've measured the opening it's going in, make sure that you have at least 1 inch of space between the opening and any moldings above or to the left or right of the door frame. THE ANDERSON FRAME HAS FLANGES PROTRUDING TO THE LEFT, RIGHT, AND ABOVE THE FRAME THAT SCREW INTO THE FRONT OF YOUR HOUSE, IT DOES NOT SCREW IN FROM THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR OPENING AS SOME SCREEN/STORM DOORS DO - this is why you will need at least an inch of clearance around your YY" x ZZ" door hole. We had to rip off moldings and put back up smaller ones because this wasn't clear from the outset.

Thank you for your review to Andersen® Windows. Oil rubbed bronze is a centuries-old finish designed to simulate aged bronze. Oil rubbed bronze is a "living finish" with no protective coating. With frequent operation and use, the natural oils from your hands will polish away the dark outer finish to expose the bronze beneath, often resulting in a two-tone appearance. There is no method that will speed up the natural bronzing process. If you need further assistance, please call our Solution Center at 888-888-7020. --Megan Andersen

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the inconvenience. You may advise your installer or contractor to modify the brickmould so that the door will fit perfectly on the opening. If the storm door unit is a stock product, they do not come with a handle set, we have the retail handles available through dealers or stores as an extra purchase. - Irene AWEMCOMarketing
