The cut that the Drywall Circle Cutter makes is meant to be mudded over or covered, so the cut may be a bit rough depending on how clean an edge is desired in your craft application.

The Anvil 8-1/2" Drywall Circle Cutter is a handy little device that I wish I had when I remodeled by master bathroom. I ended up using a 6" recessed lighting hole saw for most of that operation but those cutters make a huge mess and require a lot of cleanup. The blade on this drywall cutter is sharp and thin, and because you're not sawing through it there's very little cleanup. The centering tip is 1/2" long so it truly is a 1/2" thick drywall cutter, however, I tested it on 5/8" drywall also and if you are able to push a nail through the hole the extra 1/8" you can easily reset it on the back side, it just takes a bit more of a hit with the hammer end to knock out the circle afterwards. The numbers on the bar are measured to the inside of the centering barrel and indicate what the overall diameter will be, so 6 is 3" long on the bar and indicates a 6" diameter circle. The only con that I ran across is that you really have to crank down on the locking screw to stop it from moving or else it has a tendency to shift on the bar without you noticing. If you already have the tool set and the hole mostly cut you're fine, but if your hole is just starting out or is only partially complete your hole might end up a bit oblong. All-in-all I would buy again because it's super easy to use and the cleanup is next to nothing. Drill-attached hole saws and drywall saws are a bit faster, but they make such a huge mess of the surrounding area.

The drywall circle cutter is ideal for anybody trying to make a whole greater than 6 inches in diameter. While you have your traditional cutters do you get attached to a drill bit this will give me the precise cutting for any whole greater than 6 inches of diameter. Well made and easy to use right out of the box. Easily adjust up to 16 in diameter. And just to be clear or you can cut any size you want but I feel it might be easier to use the drill bits or anything smaller than 6 inches just from our time efficiency perspective, Especially if you have multiple holes to cut.

I got this drywall cutter, expecting to use it on drywall that I already hung up. It was not clear in the description that this is only for drywall before you hang it, as you have to score both sides of it, then tap it with the hammer type part of the body. The blade does not extend far enough to simple perform all of the cutting from one side. This has both Metric and SAE units so you can determine how many mm or inches you need. Adjusting for the needed diameter is simple, just adjust the knob, but like I said I had no use for it as I make my cutouts after I hang my drywall

I have started to finish my basement, so doing a lot of drywall work. Got this tool to cut nice clean circles for ceiling light electrical boxes. This tool, which adjust using the measurement indicators on the side of the tool (inches and MM) cuts really nice clean round holes in drywall. Use a small drill to make a hole through the drywall, then scribe a cut line on BOTH sides of the drywall. Tool is easy to use, sturdy and well made of quality materials, with a chrome plated surface to avoid rust when not in use. Suggest wearing work gloves when using to get a better grip on the tool. Nice tool, reasonably priced.

It is good when you can cut the hole BEFORE the drywall is installed. Not very usefull on existing/installed drywall.
