Q:This item says "fittings cannot be dry fit". What does this mean?

Answer This Question

A:  Pex A expansion joints can only be made once the tubbing has been expanded using the expansion tool. Before expansion you cannot “dry fit” the joint.

Very sturdy looking, as long as they use good material to make it.
While being new to the pex A world I rolled the dice and replaced a pex A fitting that was in my garage wall. Since I was in there, I added a spigot to the outside of the garage wall with a pex A shut-off valve. It was scary turning the water on, but nothing leaked. Yeeeaaaahhh! Brass fittings feel stronger than the plastic ones. But plastic will outlive the brass ones, if you have harsh water. I chose to use brass just in case I needed to heat them up to remove a poorly installed pipe and to be able to reuse the fitting. All went very well. Just follow the "expander tool" instructions, for the proper expansion of the pex A pipe. Make sure that EVERYTHING you are using is considered pex A compatible. Another big reason that I used the brass fittings is because the "ID" is larger than the pex B fittings, so there is no minimal water restriction with the pex A fittings. Even the shut-off valves have a large "ID" for water flow. Now I'm not sure why they don't make a ball valve water spigot that allows more water flow. There must be a good reason???

Bought wrong type of coupling. I purchased type A when type B was needed. PEX A = Tool stretches PEX tube to fit over coupling barbs to seal. (More flexability) PEX B = Tool crimps a ring on the outside of the PEX tube to seal. (Rigid, less flex)
