Questions & Answers

can you use pex piping under ground

can you use pex piping under ground
Asked by: ray
I don't recommend installing underground unless the PEX Piping is ran through PVC pipe to protect it from environmental factors that could break down the pex piping. Since PEX Piping is HDPE any oils or chemicals in the ground will be absorbed by the HDPE since it is a soft type of polyethelene. Make sure to run it through PVC pipe and it should last your years!

Will this pipe burst due to freezing of the water inside the pipe??
Asked by: Arnold
No,the main reason I use it. Very cold winters in PA. Never had it burst due to freezing. Don't let the sun shine on it,becomes brittle and shatters like glass.

The tubing is fairly stiff (made my initial installation project in 40~50 degree weather) and care should be made in positioning the curve of the tubing in the right position to make it easy to slide onto the PEX fitting. This system is so much easier then using steel or copper piping!
