Answer

Yes, the Apollo 1/2 in. Plastic PEX Pipe 90° Bend Support with Mounting Bracket may be used right before the shower valve.

Does this support work much better with PEX-A? PEX-A is softer (more flexible)?

Answer

Heating the PEX will certainly make it easier to bend and conform to the bracket, but it is not required. My application required bending the tubing with a third dimensional route (i.e. not in one plane). This caused the tubing to slide out of the bracket. I used electrical tape at both ends to secure the tube.

You should be able to. If you cannot make the 90° turn with PEX, then consider using a 90° PEX or Push-to-Connect Elbow.

Tricky to insert pex-b in the bracket
As another reviewer suggested, it's probably best to warm the tubing before attempting to insert it in the bracket. It was difficult to use because the tubing kept popping out of the first end while trying to insert it in the opposite. Make sure you bend the pipe while making it fit and avoid prying against the bracket to reduce the chance of breaking it. I had to use a zip tie to keep the first end from slipping out of the bracket while fitting, and then used a 2nd zip tie on the other end. It worked, but was more challenging than I expected. Next time I'll try the metal one.

cumbersome and unreliable
Pex pops out even after painful installation. There must be more reliable alternatives.

This is a handy device for installing PEX pipe in limited space for bending. It bends the pipe at the minimum radius and keeps it there, plus gives you the option of attaching it to a stud, joist, or whatever.

I bought of few of these as I needed to make few tighter 90 degree bends and I didn't want to use 90 degree elbows, due to their flow restriction. Some people have wrote that it is hard to get the pipe into these supports. I had zero problems.

Pex is a gift to DIYers. For the cost...
Pex is a gift to DIYers. For the cost of two Sharkbite couplings and this 10 ft piece of PEX tubing I rerouted a cold water line to facilitate removing my vanity. You also need the orange reamer that cleans off any burrs and serves as a gauge for marking the tubing to insured you have inserted it completely. There is a tube inside any Sharkbite fitting that has to fit inside the pex tubing and the burr can make that very difficult. That tube is loose and can actually block the pex tube so you need to deburr and try to align the two tubes or it just won't go together. There is also a capital C tool that allows you to remove the fitting in case you need to redo something. The deburring tool and the capital C tools are reusable and probably cost less than $12 together. Also be sure any copper tubing you insert a Sharkbite into is not part of your grounding between your water meter and your electrical service panel. When I checked one after installation with my ohm meter it did not seem to conduct so I jumped it with two brass grounding clamps and 1/4 thick solid copper wire sold by the foot.
