Questions & Answers

Encaustic cement tile

Asked by Sue May 17, 2020

HydraGuard is used on encaustic cement tile on a daily basis by Rustico and by a cement tile manufacturer out west. Apply the product before installation with a sponge and then letting sit for 2 minutes and wiping off will aid in preventing grout or cement pigments from staining this tile. Lots of other benefits too.

Can this product be used on low luster polished concrete?

Asked by PC May 13, 2020

Yes. Hydraguard has shown to successfully densify all polished concrete products. A taber test showed an anormous increase in density and pore protection once hydraguard was applied. Further analysis showed an impervious effect to polished concrete once a buffer was used. GA Tech utilized this product on it its new stadium.

HydraGuard Does not make the pavers look wet. Hydrguard properties encapsulate the pigments allowed the color to pop.

Approx how many square feet will this cover?

Asked by Annalisa June 2, 2019

Annalisa, Rates vary on porosity of surface or substrates. Testing has shown 500 square feet to 1500 square feet coverage based on less dense cementitious to high density cementitious surfaces. Cementitious means any grout, mortar or concrete system. Dilution rates may also be applied to extend the product if concrete has already been densified and you wish to use a as sealer densifier. Then this product can be applied as 1:5 distilled water. Always test in an inconspicuous area. Please visit for more information.

will it seal the grout between glass tiles in a saltwater pool?

Asked by jeff March 18, 2019

Will this seal and finish grout for shower walls and floors? waterproof?

Asked by claud March 6, 2018

Claud, I have sold this into many showers and floor jobs. Actual job sites I visited showed extreme performance and the customers were elated at how easy it was to apply and yet achieve such early results. Without knowing the type of tiles you installed I can say testing in a inconspicuous area is always recommended. I can always send you a small test sample and see for yourself before making a decision.

Is this a penetrating sealer? And in regards to "enhancer" - does it add a hint of sheen to the t...

Asked by KBLou August 21, 2017

Thank you for asking. Yes this product will penetrate and of course like all things is dependent of available pores. Regarding sheen, I have been told by users across the country of a illustrious beauty added to the finished stone tiles. Some like enhancement while others prefer not have it. We have installed thousands of square feet on natural stone tiles and noticed a more vibrant look to colors natural to the type of tile. We earmarked slate early on as a test for finish quality. We bought slates from around the United States and found different grades of porosity. All were of course highly absorbent. We of course rubbed in the sealer prior to install so we could see if we liked it or not. Showed the contractor, then the contractor showed the home owner and gained approval that way. Just like my many remodel project of the past and in dealing with sealers I always recommend sealing a piece of tile first before install. Check you tile for absorption and if you need more than one coat. One of the pieces we had took one coat and a slate from the northeast took two coats. Just different densities. Hope this was informative and answers your question. You will also find a high water repellency with this compared to the control.

Can you use this to seal outside concrete pavers?

Asked by RobH May 5, 2017

Yes. This product may be used to seal concrete pavers. The chemistry was designed for any cementitious product. Use on the following: Concrete Counter Tops, Concrete Pavers, Concrete Tiles, Concrete Roofing Tiles, All synthetic stones, All stone tiles for inside tiling jobs and outside tiling jobs. We tested this on old yard pavers that had efflorescence at a plant that makes pavers. We showed we can even renew the pavers with HydraGuard. Major paving contractors are now opting for HydraGuard all over. See the demo factory videos here.

Does it work on glass tile

Asked by AB July 30, 2016

Thank you for this great question. There are different kinds of tiles and some are porous while others are not. Glass tile, unpolished porcelain, and ceramic do not need to be sealed. This is because of a lack of pore structure to cause dirt and stains from being trapped. Polished porcelain is mentioned because its the process of taking a fired product and breaking the surface to cause a high luster using polishing tools, pads and water. The action of polishing forces open pores. Use HydraGuard on polished porcelain, natural stone tiles, polishing stained concrete floors etc. IF the glass is frosted THEN used HydraGuard as a barrier to make cleaning easier when grouting with acrylic, urethane and epoxy grouts. The cleaning process is superior then without. Many contractors are using HydraGuard on Glass and all other non porous tiles only as a way to make the cleaning process better less time. Use HydraGuard on sanded and unsanded grout between glass tiles.
