Either will work, just use Teflon tape and the right size pipe thread. I used plastic, about a year ago, it’s been a great water conditioner for my travel trailer!

What size pipe fittings does it use?

I cannot speak for the manufacturer but common sense would question the wisdom of exposing the unit to freezing weather. Also, direct sunlight could result in expansion and contraction resulting in leaks.

I have this filter connected to the entire house for both drinking, bathing, and hot water. What is the concentration of polyphosphate that is filtered into the water in 'mg/L' or 'parts per million'? thank you

Answer

Harold, Aquasana SimplySoft uses innovative SLOW PHOS salt-free water softening technology to naturally condition your water and protect your pipes from corrosion without the use of added sodium. As its name implies, SLOW PHOS uses food grade polyphosphate beads engineered to dissolve at a controlled (or "slow") concentration to effectively target scale producing hard mineral carbonate crystals including calcium, magnesium, and barium (Ca, Mg, and Ba). SLOW PHOS technology works by altering the ionic charge of these carbonate crystals to reduce their attraction to one another in your water. By altering their ionic charge, hard minerals will no longer clump or pack together and create scale (Ca, Mg, and Ba buildup). In addition, SLOW PHOS phosphates act as a protective barrier in your plumbing to protect from pipe corrosion. Unlike salt-based water softeners, Aquasana SimplySoft SLOW PHOS technology will not demineralize your water nor will it negatively affect the environment by adding excessive amounts of sodium into our communal water system. If you have any other questions or concerns, kindly contact our service team at 866.662.6885 for further assistance. Thank you, Aquasana

It’s been only a couple of weeks since installed but so far so good. I see less mineral deposits in the faucets and it doesn’t compromise the water pressure either which I was a bit concerned about.

We have a small apt over garage with a tankless water heater. Since there is no softener for the apt we thought we would see if this help cut down on water spots and build up in the faucets. Only had on for few weeks so we are hoping in the long run it will work. There was no water coming out of faucets due to all the calcium in them.

Installed with our on demand water heater. Let’s get this upfront. This is not a water softener, I didn’t want Soft Water. I wanted conditioned water to protect my water fixtures. This works for exactly that. It’s not dragging bags of salt, later effecting the water treatment plants. It is awesome

Pretty easy to install but wish the bracket was metal. The plastic one it comes with is pretty flimsy. The water quality is about the same as with my water softener. I guess thats pretty good considering no salt is needed.Home depot had the best price, free delivery and it came fast and well packed. 5 Stars for them!!
