Does this item need to hook up to a drain system or just the water system'
Asked by: sandi
No drain, just the water system. We have very hard water (well system) and previously had a salt system. I hated the salt system, buying salt, lugging the bags, fitting it. My husband installed this Aquasana system (he is a licensed plumber) so unit is installed with the pre filter as well as an additional whole house filter. I can not recommend this system, while it may be easier, up to 600,000 gallons, the salt system did a much better job, I now have issues with water leaving rust residue, and I never did before. I promised I would not complain about the salt being difficult to handle, if he would rip this out and reinstall a new salt system. He will be doing so soon.

Our well water tests at CaCo3 31.3 GPF, iron 0.059 mg/L. Will it handle this?

Aquasana says " . . . separate the minerals while they travel through the pipes". Since not removed from the water then it is NOT a softener and through the magic of deceptive marketing they sell it as a softener THEN tell you that you have to spend more $ to add a TRUE softener.

Can this descaler/softner be used with well water?

Asked by: Dell
SimplySoft is designed to handle hardness levels below 25 GPG and works best with hardness levels at 15 GPG or below. As long as your water falls in that range, the system will certainly help! Thank you, Aquasana Customer Support

Aquasana 600,000 Gal. Whole House Salt-Free Water Conditioner with Pre-Filter and Install Kit, Blues is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Minerals Still Come Through We moved from a house that had a whole house filter system, hoping that the Aquasana Descaler for our new house would help reduce some of the water spotting that we had with the other manufactured system. We didn't want to go with a salt system. As it turns out, even on the same water system, the Aquasana Whole house filter and Descaler does not do as good of a job as the other manufactured product, which was just a filter. Not sure that this Descaler does any more than help reduce scale buildup in the pipes as advertised, but there is no way to know that it does this except for long term use and inspection of the inside of the pipes. We have PEX piping, so not sure if that would happen anyway. In reality, I don't think this Descaler will do anything for us. It does not reduce or eliminate the mineral spotting on fixtures or items washed with the water. We have to wipe down our fixtures, pots/pans, shower doors, and dishwasher of the white residue that shows up after washing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No changes after installation. The same hard water after installing this whole house water softener from Aquasana. We tested for a few weeks with different ways: - Measuring the hard water level - No cleaning the shower glass for a few days after each usage - Leaving water still in a pot for a day without any other water There was no change in any of the tests. The shower glass, which was my main hope, was the same as without the filter. So I imagine the impact over the water heater and pipes are the same and damage in long term is just the same. When I reach out to return, I realized I would need to hire a plumber again to come remove the unit and change back the pipes all to the previous set up, so I gave up, as the cost for the plumber to install was almost the same as the unit. To remove would be the same cost again, so I left it in. I don't recommend and if you really need a softener, go with one that it's a true one. I tried to save cost and tested this, I regret and should have just saved the money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from THIS IS NOT A WATER SOFTENER After a year of use, and not really noticing a hardness difference, I finally decided to test myself. My raw water shows 8gpg on the hardness scale. My Aquasana softened and filtered water shows 8gpg as well. Essentially the water softener is not softening my water. After reading in detail the supposed benefits of this product, I see claims that this should prevent scale build up. However, this is also not true. I have used this water in expensive humidifiers only to find that there is massive scale build up which has damaged the units. Additionally, I purchased an air quality monitor which shows me that running the humidifiers with this water puts out over 500pm2.5 in dust particles. My family has been sick all winter and now I finally understand why. I switched to store bought distilled water in my humidifiers and now the dust doesn't even register and my family is breathing better. Calling this product a water softener is frankly false advertising.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I purchased whole house filtration system from Aquasana, SimplySoft Salt Free Water Softener is N... I purchased whole house filtration system from Aquasana, SimplySoft Salt Free Water Softener is NOT a softener. It is descaler, it makes the particles very small, but do not soften the water. I have checked my water hardness and it reached level of 456 mg/l CaCO3. I spoke with Aquasana customer service and was told that only option to soften the water is to remove their SimplySoft "Softener" and install Salt Water Softener. After spending 2000$ for a system that should take care of my water problems I need to spend another 500$ to make it right. Aquasana water filters and UV light works 100% good, but adding 700$ "softener" should be reconsidered by customers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from disappointed! I have municipal water here in Plainville, CT. It has a very high mineral content which, according to the town, is "acceptable and within the safe range". I installed all new plumbing fixtures when we bought the place because they were a mess from the calcium. The new fixtures were a mess within a month. I installed the complete aquasana system, including the SimplySoft. I have had this system in place for over a year and haven't seen even a little bit of a change. I am very disappointed that I paid all this money when I could have gotten a real softener and been done with this. (I have had the water tested to verify the content of the water before and after installing the filter)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tasting water! Installation was straight forward, but the instructions leave a lot to be desired, ie. all there is, is a picture of the completed install. Very few instructions. It would be helpful to show the plumbing "behind" the wall. That picture is far from a "normal" install. We flushed the tanks as directed, but after installing, there was still a significant amount of carbon coming out of the closest faucet. I also drained and flushed the water heater to make sure I had all the carbon out of that. Would have been nice to know that ahead of time, and run a bit of water into a bucket before completing the connection back into the house and contaminating all the lines. The water immediately tasted better (like bottled water). My wife and I both noticed softer water when showering, and she doesn't have to use fabric softener when washing bath towels. The dishwasher also works better, and less scaling on the glasses. I have noticed that there is almost no scale buildup on the faucets or shower heads. However, the scale that was on the shower head has not been cleared off after two months of use. Not a big deal, I can clean that to then insure scale buildup does not come back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly pleased. Performs as advertised We conducted extensive research and settled on the Aquasana for our high rise condo in Cape Coral, FL, where the municipal water is deplorable. Our local plumbing contractor recommended and installed the Aquasana Whole House system in a small water heater closet. We added the Sterilight UV Filter, and pre, post, and micron filters. The water taste is excellent - as good or better than any bottled water. We've also observed a noticeable improvement in the laundry, shower, and no hard water deposits/spots on the glass shower doors. The system is far superior to salt based and reverse osmosis systems as it does not waste water in the process. We are completely satisfied with our purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for the average household owner I am very sorry I purchased this expensive product and paid quite a hefty fee to a plumber for installation. I am very unhappy with the results of this system: e.g., calcium spots and black streaks in my toilets.
