AnswerHello! You may want to check your owner's manual to ensure it is the correct version. The gear tractors do not have a free wheel control/release, but when manually moving the mower, ensure the shifter is in neutral. Can't beat the price!
I picked it up already assembled, and the staff at the New Milford Home Depot helped me load it onto my pickup truck.
I unloaded it, checked the oil, added fuel, and mowed the lawn. It doesn't go up or down steep slopes, and the safety switch under the seat cuts out if I hang over the side to cut across the hills.
The 17.5 hp one lunger is noisy, but has plenty of power.
A budget mower for an fair price.

Not perfect, but good
Bought this new 5 years ago and it's still running well. It is loud though, but does an ok job. Two issues I have with it are like others said. 1) doesn't matter how slow you let the clutch out it still bucks - front wheels come off the ground, especially if your in a high gear. 2) turn radius is not good, especially at higher speeds, forget it. The front wheels will turn, but the mower will continue careening in a somewhat straight line - makes it hard to control steering in high gear.

Purchased this mower 2 years ago and have put-in $700 in repairs. Bad quality!
I purchased this mower for $1100 two years ago, and had to spend $700 to fix multiple problems with the mowing tray support bolts breaking several times, and worse, both the drive shaft assemblies of the mowing blades wearing-out before one season. The manufacturer would not cover these parts under my 2-year warranty, because they wanted me to take the unit to a specialist each time.
Great design and functionality on the mower, but horrible quality on the mechanical parts and after-sales warranty support from manufacturer. I will NEVER purchase an Ariens machine again.

A much needed help to tackle a common problem.
I like the ease of use of this mower to get the job done quickly. It was a clearance item in the store, so all the bells and whistles / accessories didn't come with it, but the people at home depot were very helpful in getting me what I needed to make this purchase happen. I got all I could have ever want with this mower, because it helps me get my yard cut fast and makes it look good with the levels of cut that can be performed. The whole family likes using the mower, even though it is not a toy, but rides like a go-cart when the blade is up and it's on the highest speed. I'm happy with the mower and even more happy with the level of help I got from the people at the home depot.

Most bang for the buck!
Bought this in September 2014. I wanted to wait a year before reviewing. I was waiting for about six weeks for the mechanic to fix my old mower. When I couldn't contact him or get him to return calls I went out and bought this. One of the best purchases I have made. I had to adjust the deck but, to get the best cut, I added the Husqvarna guide wheels to the back of the deck and now it cuts very smooth. This has plenty of power, turns on a dime and will back up without having to disengage the mower blade.
